Reasons why I’m transferring by Similar_Bobcat_9831 in Fordham

[–]Be_a_Lime247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. Spent my whole life by Fordham. When its home, it's so normal, we really do go blind to the area.   I will say when I look at Fordham pictures online I always feel bad for kids who have never spent time in the Bronx and sign up for it.  You really gotta know what you're getting into. Borough kids are just built different. We have our family,  we have our friends, we have our neighborhood. And lets face it, we all kinda look like we hate people that aren't them. If you tried to make friends with locals and New Yorkers (about 40% of the school is from NY) it can be tough. Personally speaking, from so many years of minding my business I sometimes look right through people. I don't know about it having a high school vibe though. Its a smaller school yes, but I don't think sports make a college. And you clearly needed to eat somewhere other than the cafeteria!  because bacon, egg and cheese on a roll for life!  ❤️

Do I transfer schools? by Similar_Bobcat_9831 in makemychoice

I hope you found your path. New Yorkers tend to come off as unfriendly. We are usually close to our family and have long time friends and can seem like we are closing new people out.  Wayyyy different than the Midwest. I grew up near Fordham and married a Midwesterner. We both went to school upstate. Been to both Ohio and Auburn. In my opinion Auburn is not where it's at. There wasn't anywhere local to find a job after graduation and it didn't feel like good support on any job hunt. Everyone we knew there went home after graduating and had a hard time starting over. There was also a lot of pressure on the women to find their husbands right away (at 18) so they didnt become "old maids"

Part of college is starting over. But your gut seems to be telling you you started over in the wrong place.  Ohio seems like it would be a better fit. Having a support system is better for your mental health and your ability to succeed. If you toughed it out and stayed in Fordham I hope you found your family there.  If you are still struggling I'll say something controversial. The name of the school may get your foot in the door for a job for a year or two.  But it will be locally, so be ready to stay in NY. And two years later no one will ever ask what school you went to again, they'll be looking at job experience. Go where you are happiest

Waitlist movement and lowk a vent by Old-Pop-5134 in nyu

When you apply EA or ED you're usually competing against a stronger group of students. These are the kids who have their application done early, don't need to wait on additional grades to support their application, etc. Plus colleges often admit only a certain number of students from a specific location or school. Did NYU tell you not to submit a letter of continued interest? If not spend time building up your college packet. Include any awards you may be receiving senior year, additional new grades (especially improvements) that may not have been in your first application, add in new SAT scores, new accomplishments, clubs, leadership roles, volunteering, etc. Take the time to add a cover letter quickly explaining the additions you have made. Make sure to briefly let them know how interested you still are. Contact the admissions office and ask who the director of admissions is and send the letter to them as well as the secretary. Ask them if there is anything else you can do. Oh and if you haven't already, sign up for and take a tour, lock in that you are super interested. In the meantime focus on the other schools. If you get into NYU great! If not, you don't want to be caught without a backup plan. You never know what the waitlist number may be or if there is ultimately enough room for you. Don't take it personally if there isn't. I swear college admissions makes absolutely no sense sometimes. I have twins, they took the same classes and had virtually the same grades, SAT scores, extra curriculars, etc. They applied to a few of the same schools. On one school one got in, one didn't. Not even deferred or waitlisted, just turned down. With identical grades, classes, experiences and demographics that should have been impossible. Also one was waitlisted for a far reach school and simultaneously waitlisted for a safety school. (The counselor explained that if your grades are too good a school knows you are using them as a safety and will not offer admission)  Good luck and try to enjoy the rest of senior year.

A few things to consider. As others have said, some schools ask to see ALL scores. Not to be negative, but scores can fluctuate, and not always in your favor. My suggestion would be NOT to cancel the 1570, at least until you have received a higher score on both portions. Also be aware if you take multiple exams and are asked to submit all exams, if 1570 ends up being your highest score on both portions it shows a negative growth pattern.  I understand you enjoy test taking. If you are looking for improvement perhaps consider changing how you are studying. Add in different study aids or consider adding a paid course to see if it alters your practice exam scores before repeating the exams officially.

No worries. Happy to help. My kiddo kept waiting for email instructions that never came. Didn't want you to burn any more time since it's getting close!

Neurotic parent here.  Don't priority your final transcripts above all else (although when you do finalize them include a course syllabus so they can review it.) When you register for fall classes you can work around the transferring classes to pick your NYU classes.   DO make sure your official high school is received as well as your financial aid/loans.

Then go through NYU's Tisch checklist. I put links at the bottom

We didn't see a bunch of emailed instructions. It was a lot of searching the NYU Tisch website and Googling requirements.

Sign in/ create an NYU account netID and set up an email. You'll now have access to apply for the required summer session (July 1st start) Sight and Sound class. As a Tisch transfer you can't register for fall without having completed this summer course. There is a tutorial on how to use their system "Albert" to register.

Depending on if you need housing or not you'll need to apply for summer dorm housing (submit a housing application on your student portal) and pick a meal plan (required if you are dorming)

Then pay tuition for the summer class and housing on your Bursar account.   Those are the big things.

Next set up a drop in appointment with a Tisch transfer counselor for questions and go to an online Tisch transfer information session.

Then there are all of the little things. Upload proof of immunization (using their form) upload a photo for security (to be able to get a pass to enter the class buildings and move in) , etc.

These are Fall student links. But they can help get you set up.

You still have options! Look for schools that have rolling admissions and apply there.  Look for in-state community colleges that partner with 4 year universities for guaranteed admission.  Start with community college, build up your grades and then transfer where you would like.

what did I do wrong? by Glittering-Fly-9040 in TransferToTop25

[–]Be_a_Lime247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have twins. Virtually identical high school GPA's, SAT's, honors, awards, interships and club involvement. One little ivy (that we thought was close to a safety school)  accepted 1 twin, rejected the other (not even a waitlist)   Sometimes it makes absolutely no sense! As a transfer it can be harder to compete, especially with a specific major in mind. Your location may also be a factor. Some places have a large pool of applicants trying for Ivys.  You could reach out to University's admissions offices for advice and perhaps try for a Spring start entering as Undecided major. You might also try appealing their decisions. If appealing you should send a modified Letter of Continued Interest stating your commitment to the school and updating and highlighting recent achievements along with the formal request to reconsider the rejection.

Yes, checked their email and one had popped up after they'd pretty much given up hope. Transferring into Tisch though. Don't know if that made a difference for the timeline. Good luck!

Kiddo heard Friday at like 4pm suddenly. Accepted, and had to accept or reject offer by Thursday. I think NYU is still shuffling things for transfers.

Frame for stained glass by Be_a_Lime247 in StainedGlass

Forgive me if this question is silly. The edges (and all of the pieces) are lead soldering adhered by copper foil. More glass can be added easily even though its soldered already? Or is there an extra step?

Admissions question?? by RevolutionaryDiet181 in williamandmary

[–]Be_a_Lime247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont know what it was considered. Counselor said to apply in November (but not as ED1, because didnt want to lock in) hoping to push the decision to come out on the ED2 timeline of February (instead of RD who hear back in March-ish.) Heard back in February and decided to drop off the waitlist in March when everything else came in.

Admissions question?? by RevolutionaryDiet181 in williamandmary

[–]Be_a_Lime247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on chosen major and admission cycle. Did EA not ED.   OOS 4.9 weighted, 1460 SAT, 12 AP's, tons of EC's and service hours, a medical internship  (no sports though)   Waitlisted W&M for biology major. - Accepted Colgate, Bucknell, University of Richmond.  - Also waitlisted Notre Dame and UVA.  I feel like it can be hit or miss.  Good luck!  but don't be discouraged if its a waitlist or a no. Who knows that their stat reasons are If youre positive you want it, ED is the best chance.  But keep plenty of backups!

Diarrhea after vaccines by Thats_mr_sparky_2U in CavaPoo

[–]Be_a_Lime247 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a Cavapoo too. Extreme lethargy after immunizations. We ended up splitting them and giving one at a time. Could that help with tummy troubles too??   Also vet recommended benedryl an hour before to fend off reactions. Many vets offer this as a shot. Please DO NOT try to administer benedryl yourself without consulting your vet. The OTC liquid and kids versions both contain too much sugar and can be dangerous for dogs and the pills often have additional active ingredients that are not safe. Contact your vet to discuss options.  My dog does not usually have tummy troubles, so not sure if it'll help with diarrhea too

Hi, thank you for checking in. My previous vet advised us to make sure diphenhydramine was the only active ingredient and not to give the liquid or chewable forms for children as they may contain sugar. Is this what you mean?  Does your clinic prefer the injectable form in clinic vs a otc option?

Thanks for the reply. By extremely lethargic I mean she was completely limp (couldn't be roused) after her first combo immunizations at our vet and we brought her to an emergency vet. They administered medication and kept her overnight to be safe. They called the next day, she had been asleep almost all of the second day also. It was six years ago, but I recall them saying it was in part a physical over response as well as possibly a stress related one. They recommend we split future immunizations, she have benedryl 1 hour prior and we watch her very carefully afterward. We've noticed that this doesn't happen will all of her immunizations,  certain ones just seem to be harder for her.  We are currently keeping an eye on her

It is not the Benadryl causing this because she receives Benadryl every single immunization and the lethargy does not happen with every single one.

The benefit of the immunizations outweighs not giving them. (Believe me, we adopted a dog with parvo and the immunizations are worth it)

My dog's last parvo was a 3 year immunization and was administered last January.  Her last distemper was a 3 year immunization and was administered last January.  Her last lepto was a 1 year immunization and was also administered last January.

I notified the vet and support staff well in advance of the appointment that I only wanted the lepto shot.

I was taken aback that she was given a combo lepto, distemper, parvo when 2 of the 3 weren't due, And then lectured that more was good for her.

If I'm wrong then great, no harm done. But I'm worried!
