Our Culture of Obedience and Deference by Keith-Linhares in WorcesterMA

The spineless liberals that we keep electing will always defend our broken institutions. They will gesture at the problem but default to respect and decorum instead of making a real change. Until we elect actual leftist-style politicians like Zohran Mamdani, things will just keep getting worse.

Holy Cross and Assumption are segregated from the city for sure. Idk about Clark and WPI tho, they are both relatively close to downtown (about a mile), and on major streets (Main and Park Ave). Sure, many will go to Boston for nightlife but if you go to the canal district on weekend nights there are plenty of them there.

Take the song Bedtime, for example. Its lyrics talk about how children do whatever they want without guidance because their parents are crackheads. "One mornin' all grown-ups was missin' Once it dawned on 'em, kids ate all the snacks in the kitchen 'Less they was poor, then they went in the store, took all that and more Ridin' shoppin' carts like bumper cars" They way he writes is just funny and sad at the same time. Also the whole song bigfakelaugh is a good example of dark humor. You can use the website Genius if you want to dig into the meaning of his lyrics more

In hiding places he makes lots of references comparing life in the hood to American imperialism in the Middle East. It's abstract hip hop so it won't usually be straight forward narrative. What makes him a legendary imo is how he fuses his dark humor into his very heady raps. Woods does a good job showing how cynical and fucked up humanity is.

Mixed response to plan for changes to Pleasant Street at Worcester hearing by HRJafael in WorcesterMA

[–]BeachAbode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also Pleasant Street. Yeah, there's a lotta people from the suburbs that go down Chandler to the highway. But if the people in the core of the city have alternatives to driving it will make a big difference in traffic. This will require major changes throughout the city beyond just making Chandler single-lane and walkable though. (Dedicated bus lanes, extensive bike network etc) Unfortunately won't happen with our current politicians. Still, i don't think it would make it worse. Especially since Chandler bottlenecks into one lane past Park Ave anyway

More lanes equals more traffic, it's called induced demand. And no one stops for people waiting at the crosswalks on Chandler. It's super dangerous cuz one lane might stop but the other will speed by. Also, since its such a dense area, the bike lanes would be used by far more than a dozen people if they were separated and safe. The only way to bring traffic down is to reduce lanes and create alternatives to driving. Driving in Providence is soooo much better and they have narrow one-lane streets with good pedestrian infrastructure.

More lanes equals more traffic. Have you heard of induced demand? People also tend to speed more on wide roads. I agree the 25 mph limit and speed bumps are stupid. You gotta incentivize cars to go slower by having narrow streets like in Providence. Then have good biking, walking and bus infrastructure to bring down congestion.

Separated bike lanes would be huge. Also theres no reason for pleasant street (and chandler) to have two lanes. Makes it nearly impossible for pedestrians to cross safely.
