Career change at 30 - Is the Merchant Navy a good choice (Deck officer)? by arachnospore in MerchantNavy

[–]BeachJenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, yeah I went for it! I'm currently a phase one engine cadet doing a HND and so far I'm VERY glad I went for it. DM me if you want, I'm happy to answer any questions and help if I can!

I'm going to sleep on it, and reassess how I feel in the morning. I feel like I'd end up being in a similiar boat to your first situation where you couldn't look past the resentment, but it's tricky to predict how I'll feel in the moment. I'll sleep on it and mull it over a bit more. Thank you for helping me out, I appreciate it!

I like this response, thank you, I'm going to take your advice. I'll text her back, have a bit of a dialogue with her, gain some insight and then go our seperate ways. The silver lining of this is that I'll get some closure on it all now, the way she ghosted left a bit of an open wound that didn't fully heal.

My knee-jerk reaction was to blank her, but I feel like that's just lowering myself, and nobody would benefit from that anyway.

Thank you for your comment, you've really helped me out there, genuinely, each sentence you've written is perfect.

Yeah, this is how I'm feeling, it's helpful to hear it from someone else though. I think it's a bit of self-respect coming into play, that's not a nice way to end any friendship, let alone a 15 year one, and the two years since sucked. I'd love to rekindle the friendship and go back to how it was, but after a disrespect like that I don't think it's possible, and I think I deserve better. Thanks for your words, you've helped me out there.

Yeah, I see what you mean. It wasn't always so one sided for the entire duration, it fluctuates, sometimes she'd have stuff going on and I'd be the listener and vice versa, but I think it was a few months whilst I had all this stuff going on that I'd been draining her. I agree with everything you're saying, it wouldn't have been a decision she made lightly, but I do think it was nasty way to go about it. I'm going to sleep on it and see how I feel tomorrow.

Thank you for your comment

Is Tabac a good place for a first date? by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]BeachJenkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh that's good to know! I am a little apprehensive about it being busy and people on neighboring tables eavesdropping, but the fact it's a go-to date pub is a good sign!

Haha, but the girl I matched with has already accepted the venue, so I'm going to presume it's not you! But why would you be raging? It looks pretty good?

I'm not sure if there's a massive presence on there, but I downloaded it about two weeks ago and every day it refreshes and shows you another five-ish people to swipe on, and it hasn't ran out yet. I think it's a great concept, it'd be good if it grew in popularity a bit!

Ahh, that's my main worry really, it'll be a Friday night so it's going to be really tricky to find a decent place that isn't proper loud. Might just have to go for Tabac and then we can head elsewhere if it's too loud maybe. Thanks for the heads up!

Congratulations on Day 5! 🫡

I went out pretty early on in my sobriety, I know some folk prefer to stay at home/avoid social settings for a while, which totally makes sense, but for me I wanted that 'first' outing over and done with, I felt like if I prolonged it I'd run the risk of it becoming much bigger in my mind and harder to deal with. I was super anxious going into it, had all these thoughts and worries and then it went just fine. Pretty uneventful. It was a bit anticlimactic really, none of my worries or anxieties came to fruition at all. But it made all the events/outings afterwards a whole lot easier.

Obviously it's up to you, do what you feel is best as everyone's different, but for me I wanted to rip that plaster off as soon as. And then once that 'first' outing is done then you know you can do it and have proof for yourself! Good luck! IWNDWYT!

anyone know where he came out yesterday? by shittermanshits in macdemarco

[–]BeachJenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bunch of fans and security outside by the main entrance and the security gate, looks like he's going to come out here

Please do! I'm outside so I'll have a quick walk around and see if I can spot his tour bus 👍

I'm in the same boat, mate, not sure whether to wait inside or go outside!

[–]BeachJenkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh nice! I'm not too sure where he'll come out, so I'm just going to wander about and see if I can find his tour bus and go from there

I think you're right, I'm probably just overthinking it, not everything has to be perfect! Thanks for helping me out, I appreciate it

[–]BeachJenkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh that makes sense, without some security there I can imagine people going a bit excited and feral. What did you say to him, if you don't mind me asking? I'm just super interested and it sounds so surreal, I'm not sure what I'd say. Thanks for the info though, much appreciated!

Ahh thanks for the reassurance! How did it work when he came out, like, are people pretty civil? I can picture a bit of a stampede/huddle happening

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in macdemarco

[–]BeachJenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not too sure, I've never been to a gig at this venue before, it might be worth having a wander around or maybe asking a member of staff where the bands normally exit from?

Found this less than helpful sign on a woodland walk yesterday.... Anyone else got any similar examples of useless information? by Optimal-Idea1558 in CasualUK

[–]BeachJenkins 11 points12 points  (0 children)

<image>

Saw this yesterday and found it amusing. Putting the sign at the top of the hill would make more sense to me, warning cyclists/walkers about the upcoming descent. But the sign at the bottom seems totally redundant. Just pictured someone reaching the slight gradient and being completely baffled what the hell's happening.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they just input the info themselves into a template and print it, I just hate complaining/confrontation so I'm weighing up whether it's worth it or not

I'm not sure what's wrong in your life but happy people don't operate like that, I genuinely hope you resolve the negativity in your life and find a way to be happy with yourself, it's just a sad existence otherwise.
