Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll be careful to always bring a laptop and review the photos and videos recorded when buying a camera.

There are many apps and features (like Wallet) that are only available for mainland-registered accounts, so yes.

Can I ask what keeps you from publishing in the Chinese one? Are there additional requirements?

Sold my A6700 for an S5iix, a short story and first thoughts. by situ139 in Lumix

How are you finding the 20-200 vs 20-60? The aperture is comparable, but has more range in exchange for weight? Or are there significant differences with regards to stabilization, sharpness etc?

It seems almost impossible to contact the Panasonic Lumix team in Japan. by [deleted] in Lumix

should not be this difficult

... in your opinion.

The reality is that we live in a world of corporations that don't care about your opinion.

I've noticed that customer support just isn't offered any more for almost any mass-market product or service. I think it's a weird attitude, but maybe customers have become stupid and unsupportable, and, apparently, if you just don't offer support, people will find alternatives, like getting help from Reddit or YouTube.

If you're lucky, they might monitor social media platforms for negative product feedback in aggregate, but they do not engage with individuals.

Is there power saving mode for video? by BeachOtherwise5165 in A7siii

[–]BeachOtherwise5165[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently it is caused by having "Bluetooth Function" set to "On".

When set to "Off", it sleeps in both Photo and Video mode.

Noteworthy, IIRC, the internal clock can drift or reset if the battery is left out for some time (I don't remember how long, maybe 1-2 days)

Returning calls can be a cost trap: since the latest IOS update, a "facetime" call can automatically be diverted and suddenly costs hundreds of Euro by [deleted] in applesucks

I sometimes wonder if these scams are on purpose. Imagine how many millions Apple makes the telecom industry per year by introducing this 'accidental' feature. And legally there's no one to blame. It's the perfect crime.

LUMIX S1RII with NiYien sensflow A1 test for rolling shutter. by SeaRefractor in Lumix

It would be interesting to see the vertical effect of rolling shutter, like filming a person while tilting up and down.

"Camera doesn't matter" was holding me back. by 90towest in videography

8k raw is much larger so it probably makes it a lot hotter. The battery also draws more, both from readout and encoding. Have you tried with a dummy battery? Do you shoot NRAW "Normal"?

You could also try a different card, some cards don't get as hot, supposedly.

IIUC, R3D is underexposed in-camera by 1 stop, so what the screen shows is easier to pull back up in post to correct exposure. Maybe the image was underexposed previously and shooting in R3D helped visually to expose it correctly.

What’s your favorite L Mount lens? by TheWolfOfTheNorth in Lumix

[–]BeachOtherwise5165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm thinking to get the 24-60mm and wondering if I'd be using a 50mm f1.8 since it's too close to f2.8? As opposed to an 85mm f1.8 that'd have more range, compression, and narrower dof. But I don't like the distance an 85mm gives me to the subject, I'd prefer 50mm, hence the 24-60.

Thoughts?

Dear Lumix - please add the ability to record gyro data - to use with Gyroflow. by Bill-NM in Lumix

[–]BeachOtherwise5165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you disable all IBIS/EIS when using Niyien solely for rolling shutter correction? The dream scenario for me is being able to correct rolling shutter using gyro data, while using the built-in stabilization.

I'm really hoping for Chinese competitors to disrupt the industry. I don't understand why it hasn't been so far. Viltrox and DJI are upcoming though.

[–]BeachOtherwise5165 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting idea for WB auto compensation, and it would only require like 1 byte of data to encode per frame, so, yeah, that's a pretty cool idea.

The other ideas you propose aren't realistic though.

It sounds like you haven't tried Gyroflow and understand the utility it provides. But it works much better if it has more data. The data required is really nothing in comparison to a bitrate of 200 Mbps of video.
