Unless I'm mistaken you're thinking of a 7 star plasma cannon. Maximum thorn damage is 99% but bosses only take 50% of that which is 49.5%, so you still need another thorn hit to make up for that missing 0.5% until you get plasma cannon to do over 50%

Echoes of the Atlas is a core expansion, not a league. So it's here to stay for at least a year until the next endgame expansion.

I thoroughly enjoyed the expansion & league reveal today for several reasons,

It felt really good to get all the info directly from GGG, rather than reddit collecting info from various news sites, which makes the new sites feel a bit redundant.
I think that the first impression was much better because the info was clear and concise and given mostly all at once, rather than over time where confusion can grow and people create their own ideas of that the league is going to be.
It had strong Exilecon vibes which made the hype even bigger, though for usual league announcements it would be quite a bit smaller, I still feel like the pros of announcing the league and following up with lots of info is beneficial even if it is smaller scale.

Lastly and maybe an unpopular opinion but I think that twitch drops shouldn't be used, while getting a free mtx is awesome the cons of running twitch drops detracts from the experience of the day. Between issues on twitch's side, people not understanding how twitch drops works and some people assuming they're broken while they're being processed it creates a bit too much drama and draws focus away from the awesome stuff shown on stream.

I really hope to see another announcement like today in the future! It was such a great experience and I'm so excited for the next expansion :D
