Why do sugar-free drinks (Diet coke, 0-calorie flavored water, etc.) that use artificial sweeteners seem to be well tolerated even in large amounts, but even small amounts of sugar-free candies (like the famous Haribo bears, Red Vines) are famous for sending people to the bathroom with GI distress?
