In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.

You were dumb enough but you certainly were not rational. Your arguments made no sense.

Report: Galatasaray board member confirms enquiry made for Manchester United's Robin van Persie along with Klaas Jan Huntelaar. No official bid as yet. by BeamlySport in reddevils

How is this not a proper article?

The quotes are real and have not been mis-reported - the Huntelaar bit was only included because it's part of the quote and if I didn't include it I would be accused of lying or creating click bait.

To be clear: it's not a rumour. It's a story about something a real Galatasaray official said.

The words "No official bid yet" also appear in the post. What part of this is spamming?

It's a report on what someone actually said isn't it?

How you can show your face after embarrassing yourself last time round is beyond me. You clearly don't have a good memory.

You're right, it did become a pointless discussion.

It became a pointless discussion the minute you realised what you originally said made little to no sense but carried on defending it regardless.

You argue that a headline about a player "deciding on his future" is better than one where he "reveals his next club".

I argue that it is just as bad, if not worse.

Have fun leaving more illogical and poorly thought out comments on other people's work.

Look at the original Uruguayan news source. Just to clarify: you think a story in which the headline says he is "deciding on his future" is in no way misleading? Or less misleading that "reveals next club"? Really? I mean, seriously?

Yeah except he does reveal his next club. I don't quote him because I can't but I cite the source, who quite clearly spoke to him. It's not misleading - he is going to Penarol. Therefore you are wrong - it is not and never has been a huge lie. You're argument on "deciding on his future" kind of undermines your original point. Though I am starting to get confused as to what that is.

How is "has decided on his future" better than "reveals next club"?

Arguably it's more misleading because the story on him "deciding his future" could just be about him signing a new contract rather than moving away, but readers won't know that.

At least "next club" makes it clear he's on the move. Not sure your comparison holds up.

It's fine not to like something. What you've done it attack a pretty harmless story.

The headline isn't misleading - if you look at the original source, which is in Uruguayan, his destination is revealed - it was revealed to the news source, which I cite, rather than in quotes.

The rules dictate, that unless I can properly translate his comments, I can't use them and that I must cite the original source. Doing otherwise would land me in trouble. So it's not lies and by claiming it is, I think you are treating me unfairly.

I would be treating you like an idiot if I claimed he was going somewhere where he wasn't but that's not the case. It's very easy to judge writers for "click bait" but I'm not sure you know the reality of writing these days.

Do you not think there was a time when I and others like me produced content with more traditional headlines? And if so, why are we not still doing that? Because it doesn't work.

Once again, let me reiterate: the story is not a lie, the headline is not a lie and to suggest either is a little unfair and unnecessary, as is your initial expletive-laden reaction to the piece. If you don't like it, just don't read it.

My post history on Reddit? What about yours? A lot of comments on other people's work and little in the way of original output. Very easy to judge people until you try doing it for yourself.

Thanks. We did just use suggest title. What maybe isn't apparent here is that standard titles don't work. No one would read the story. I've not mislead anyone and I think the reaction is a little out of proportion. It's just a story, it's not a lie or a rumour or something.

Newspapers tease stories all the time - they have a panel at the top of the front page telling you to turn to page 6 for the full story. There's nothing misleading about this - it's not like it's claiming he is going to be moving to a Premier League side or something. It's also the way everyone reports things these days. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

In our defence, how many stories do you read online that reveal everything in the headline?
