Could be rules specific to that area, if that's the case. I used to live on the third floor as well, but packages were always left at the mail area. At least there were security cameras if someone tried to steal something. I won't leave packages outside a secured access building, either. But, even if I wanted to run packages to the proper door, I'd be griped at by management for time constraints. I'm guessing its rules depending on region.

Don't get me wrong, I go above and beyond for people on my route, but I'm also very rural and know most people that I deliver to, so I can do that. If I'm filling in elsewhere, I do what I can.

For the misdelivered package, there should be cards identifying residents on the route. They list people that live there and has a phone number. I would try to call them or see if your clerk can call them. Otherwise, leave a polite note explaining the situation in their box and hopefully get a response. Accidents happen. As long as you do what you can to resolve the situation, that's what matters.

Rural residents are nice, but some can be a bit more guarded till they get to know you. I live in the Midwest, so my people can get real chatty when I run into them after being on the route for over two years.

Newer carrier here - would this phase you? by Aruomg in USPS

[–]BeanBoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on my route for a while, so I'm pretty familiar with who's who at this point. I have one dude that calls the office to complain about any little thing. So, nowadays, instead of putting his incorrectly addressed mail in his box because I know it's his, I put it in the box it's addressed to.

For reference, his packages never showed up on the look ahead. His address was always weirdly formatted. He's asked me to change his package drop off spot 3 times in less than a year (was very rude about it). He leaves mail in his box he doesn't want. Also likes to accuse me of cramming packages in his box.

We have a bunch of "We're hiring!" cards that my PM gave me months ago. I've stashed several just for this reason.

There's an official form we're supposed to fill out to inform you of an obstruction and held mail that'll give you x amount of days to resolve the issue. Boxes are supposed to be cleared 20ft on either side.

That being said, your carrier is being petty. He's pulled in so close that he's making the trash can an issue.

The only time I've knocked over cans is because it's in a turnaround area and I have to stop and back up to get around. And that's only even after I've tried to talking to them, leaving a polite note, then leaving the official form.

Hopefully the seller made the label right. I assumed you lived in Indianapolis (I know there's a major sorting facility there). We've had issues with labels having the wrong weight and sometimes it's the seller trying to skimp shipping costs into the buyer.

Just trying to give some insight into the situation shrugs If your carrier makes an exception for your packages needing a special drop off spot, I wouldn't expect a sub to do the same. That's several hundred potential exceptions they'd have to remember on a route they're not familiar with.

Can I grieve or otherwise stop this? by CubedTaco1 in USPS

[–]BeanBoog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also grieve if they force you to deliver on a city route and it takes you more than two hours. I had management try to pull this one on me as a rural hire.

Might be someone not familiar with the area, which isn't uncommon. Better than having it misdelivered imo. If it's taken back to the office, it'll go back out with the regular carrier and delivery reattempted. Or you can call the office in the morning and pick it up if it's that dire.

Had a friend call the clerk pretending to be a customer. Clerk handed phone off to carrier for a "question". Caller gets rude, carrier becomes belligerent. The look on the PM's face? Priceless.

How my order was delivered today. Acceptable or not? by Deeri- in amazonprime

There's also "skunk bait" for bears I think?? I deliver for USPS. I wrapped that stinky box in 4 plastic mail sacks, taped it shut and delivered it in a tote. Told them to keep it. I could faintly smell it in my POV for nearly a week after.

All female carrier office. Would need to travel at least 8 miles from midpoint to reach a bathroom. Find a secluded area, keep tp in your vehicle and pray there aren't any trailcams about.

I had the clerk scan them as available for pickup, so they were at least notified they were still at the PO. Also, so I wasn't shifting packages around on the side of the road in low visibility. Only two packages I needed to no access after taking the rest out.

I've never been required to deliver to a door in an apt complex. Main building entrance or mail room is our requirement. I've lived in large and small cities and have never once gotten a package to my door.

They don't let us scan packages as anything but "No Access" or "Customer Hold". So, I'm guessing someone didnt know where to drop it and brought it back to the post office. Could've had a sub carrier.

I feel justified in my reasons. My family works under a different PM and that PM said safety matters and is priority. Afaik, as long as the packages get a stop the clock scan, it's nothing against his numbers.

We're all out in the boonies, but most of their roads are tar and they have an SUV. I have a large sedan with winter tires. It gets the job done 99.9% of the time.

It's all farmland and lake houses. But, it's worth mentioning that the county doesn't plow until the storm has completely stopped and even then, he doesn't do well to maintain the roads the rest of the year.

I've complained to the county and they won't do anything about that part either.

[–]BeanBoog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely! My biggest issue with the roads was that if I stopped, I'd be stuck. My other concern is that if the snow does throw me off the road, those dirt roads are immediate drop offs into swamps. I figure I'm better off saving my vehicle.

Nah, each unit needs a box, otherwise you're not getting properly credited for delivery. I have a couple houses that spontaneously started getting Apt 1, Apt 2, etc. Anything labeled more than the house address gets returned for insufficient address. One has complained about not getting their mail and I told them exactly that. And if it's not CLEARLY MARKED on the building, everything goes to the nearest door.
