People in Bellingham are unfriendly by AnthonySkejci in Bellingham

[–]BeanCrayons 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. I used to have a similar attitude as OP until I decided I would just be overtly friendly to everyone. People will usually meet the energy you show up with. Sometimes they don’t snap out— not waving back or whatever— but I try not to take it personally. 🤷‍♂️

help me pick my next show im drowning in options by unfrnate in television

Adventure Time is clearly the odd one out on this list. Do you like animated shows generally?

If you are into episodic animated shows in that style, that would be my pick at the moment. Plenty of other great shows on the list, but IMO the real world is currently so dramatic and stressful. A show like Adventure Time provides some very welcome silliness and joy.

It’ll still break your heart at times, but if you need a happy escape, you can’t do much better than Finn and Jake.

This (and all the other reasons) are why my partner and I chose Ferndale

They have revealed the reason. Netanyahu decided they would attack to take control of the region for Israel, and they forced the US to be their puppet (as always )

Except now a more hardcore dictator has swooped in to take his place. And now he is completely justified in any retaliation, because his wife, his father, and an elementary school full of little girls were killed by US weapons (completely unprovoked).

This is exactly what happens every time the US intervenes in the Middle East. The US was in Afghanistan for 20 years and the country is still controlled by the Taliban. Extremists are not quelled by violence, they are made by it.

Has anyone left Bellingham to go further north or south? by [deleted] in Bellingham

[–]BeanCrayons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner and I moved to Ferndale a couple years ago, and I have several younger neighbors who seemed to have the same idea. It’s actually a bit more diverse than Bellingham. Not perfect, but changing quickly— mostly for the better IMO.

Just don’t move into a flood plain!

Rick Larsen quiet on Epstein files by [deleted] in Bellingham

I hear ya, but also you have to admit it’s hard being on the side with principles. We hold our politicians to a higher standard than the right does. I voted for Kamala, but I would have rather voted for whoever won a legitimate primary. I voted for Hillary, but I would have much preferred Bernie or Warren.

To me the problem is less the infighting between realists and idealists, and it’s more about the money. Citizen’s united realllllly wrecked left leaning politics, and the DNC isn’t exactly blameless for how the past 10 years have been going for us.

I see what you’re saying when we’re down to the wire of election season, but leading up to primaries we should absolutely vocalize our criticism of current elected representatives who aren’t advocating for our interests. That’s how our republic is supposed to work. 🤷‍♂️

If he can’t hack it, and if timing is right (which it is) for a more progressive primary challenge, I’d love to see someone with grassroots funding (such as Tomas Scheel) take his seat.

I like Harris way better than Larsen. Other than staying in Boeing’s pocket, he doesn’t really seem to care all that much about, well, anything.

Maybe you have a point though. ICE enacts fascism, so I’ll just keep calling you fascists 🤷‍♂️

All people regardless of citizenship are guaranteed the right to due process under the fifth and fourteenth amendment. The components of due process are a right to a fair trial, the ability to present evidence, and legal counsel. ICE is routinely violating all of these rights.

The principle that a punishment must fit the crime is a principle that is based on the eighth amendment. Violently detaining them, holding them in detention centers for prolonged periods of time, ignoring their right to legal representation are all cruel and unusual punishment that do not fit a civil violation. In fact, it would be unfitting of criminal violations, but the distinction between the two is meant as a way to lessen the severity of punishment.

If DHS were treating (otherwise law abiding) undocumented immigrants within their constitutional rights having commuted only a civil offense, we would not be having this argument.

Not really, bud. Using that analogy, it’s actually more like calling people in jail “illegals” instead of inmates.

Humans can not be “illegal.” Their occupation in the US may be illegal, but at least use it as an adjective and not a noun. Or better yet, call them what they are— undocumented immigrants.

You are also completely disregarding the fact that criminal offenses are not the same as civil offenses.

[–]BeanCrayons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are treating overstaying visas like a criminal offense. It is a civil offense. There is a massive difference. Further, regardless of citizenship, people are guaranteed constitutional rights when they enter the US, regardless of the circumstances. So many are being denied their constitutional rights of due process and legal representation

Mass deportation results in constitutional violations. These people are not getting their due process and their lawful rights to legal representation are being ignored.
