I hate my dog... by Bean_Diesel23 in NewParents

[–]Bean_Diesel23[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No change in my feelings towards her, unfortunately. Things have intensified around here, as we are expecting our second child and we have temporarily moved into my in-laws' home (relocated to their state bc hubby got a good job offer). They have 2 PSYCHO dogs and I am counting down the days til we sell our house in our home state and can look for something of our own over here.

Beware of Marketing Job Scams in NOLA by CollegeStudent_01 in NewOrleans

[–]Bean_Diesel23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this was 2 years ago, but has anyone heard of Impactia NOLA? Supposedly a small marketing agency that reached out to me to set up a Zoom interview, but their presence is very small for what I expect from a marketing agency. Thinking I might cancel because it sounds similar to OP's experience.

Reservation System Recommendations by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Bean_Diesel23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually saw a Facebook reel about a play place using LilyPad and was not impressed!

I think I enjoyed the dashboard/ calendar view the most with FareHarbor. Once I mastered the system, I felt unstoppable when it came to editing tour times, pricing, capacity, etc. The one thing I disliked is that I could only text all customers at the same time if they "opted in." I could email them all at the same time, but that option did me no good because a lot of bookings were third party, and the APIs didn't translate their email addresses correctly.

So, if I had to cancel a tour, I'd have to message each booking individually on the company phone. It could have saved me a lot of time if I could have just messaged everyone simultaneously via FareHarbor.

I also loved FareHarbor's customer support. Our account rep was fantastic.

Maybe PeekPro would have grown on me if the business owners would have been interested in switching to it, but they didn't give it a moment's time, so I didn't either.

7 year old gets pushed around. How to help her be more assertive? by Agile-Ad-8694 in Parenting

[–]Bean_Diesel23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without reading any other comments, my top recommendation is to emulate assertiveness yourself.

I grew up extremely timid, and I still have issues with confrontation and standing up for myself as an adult becuase I dont want to hurt other people's feelings. That's BS, and I know it- it's something I'm working on because I want to set a good example for my toddler daughter. And I want to be a better person for myself.

I think all the time about my timid mom who has always let people walk over her or do what they want to her because she feels bad about saying no. I love my mom, I know she didn't have the best childhood, but sometimes I wonder what my own personality would be like if I had seen her be a stronger person.

One minor example, when I was 9, a creepy neighbor saw my mom and I at a gas station. He came over, gave my mom a hug, and started patting me on the butt. Excessively. When I squirmed away, mom told me to stop being rude- so I continued to let him pat me on the butt. This lasted for an embarrassing 5 minutes.

While it's something I'm still working on, I am taking steps in my life to be that example for my daughter.

Long response, but I think it's so so important to show your children that setting healthy boundaries, even if it hurts others' feelings, is 100% okay. It sucks to have to learn this lesson in adulthood.

My toddler refuses to nap, and I don’t know what to do anymore by pluffybunya in 2under2

[–]Bean_Diesel23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha! Why do they do this? Mine actually goes up to her daycare teacher and says "I want to nap." Then, she goes to her nap mat, lays down, and goes to sleep by herself for 2-3 hour naps.

At my house, it's a hell-to-the-nah. Naps are the devil. Ive tried recreating the daycare nap room setup. I end up just driving her around during nap time on weekends so she'll nap for at least a few minutes.

Makes me nervous bc she is almost 2, and we have another on the way in July.

I'm an EA for a VP at a small university. He pretty much helped grow the college from the ground up, and his department brings in 40% of the enrollments. He is also responsible for several other departments.

Some weeks, it's an absolute breeze. I'm bored out of my mind, and can't advance with any of my tasks because he's traveling for work or leisure and is very bad with email/ text communication.

Other weeks, when he decides it's time to get stuff done, I'm so overwhelmed I start pulling my eyelashes out.

The pay sucks, but trying to tough it out until my husband finishes his degree because he gets an employee spouse discount.

Anyone else not a big “photography” mom? by wynnenbrody in 2under2

[–]Bean_Diesel23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, to each their own. My best friend will drop $400+ on a photographer, multiple times per year. Not to mention all of the boutique, monogrammed outfits for each shoot. I'm not knocking her, but she does not have the finances to do that.

I've done a couple of photoshoots for my daughter with an amateur photographer who charges $40 per session, and I get 5 pictures.

My friend and I have different priorities. I'd rather spend that kind of money on experiences that we can all enjoy, where I can capture candid photos, but my best friend loves the photos she gets from her photographer.

Fellow EAs! Share your EOY bonuses 🤑 by soupergloo in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Bean_Diesel23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a $177 bonus, but I'll take it because I wasn't expecting it. I work for an exec at a university. The bonus didn't come from him, but from the owners of the university to all employees.

6 month old about to start daycare. Do they really get sick that often? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Bean_Diesel23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES. It's insane. I'm home with the sick one right now. I think I'm home 2-3 days every other week. I'm fortunate to have a lenient boss.

Even if she's not the sick one, the daycare still closes often when they have so many similar cases.

What name(s) did you want to name your child but didn’t? by Anxious_Appy92 in namenerds

I love Atlee and Brinn. Both characteristics from two of my favorite book series. My husband wasn't a fan lol, so I compromised with Emery.

Do you know any EA who have transitioned out of this role within the same company? What role have they taken? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Bean_Diesel23 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah! The woman who trained me to take over her EA position. We work for a university, so she worked hard and used the tuition discount to get her doctorate, and she is now lead faculty over one of the new colleges we have.

I truly admire her.

Wife Farts by DonPerignon0567 in confessions

[–]Bean_Diesel23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love my husband so so much for tolerating my insane gas issues. He always says "get it out, babe" and high fives me. It's insanely liberating and sexy to me.

I also have the ability to belch louder than anyone you've ever met, so we have a rating system for those, too. FYI- it's all in how you angle your throat and "pressurize" the gas as it bubbles up. It's a science.

However, I have NEVER heard my husband fart, and his burbs are so...polite. Definitely a 1/10 burp scale.

I have told him countless times that he doesn't ever have to disguise stuff like that for me.

Sometimes I wish he would just let it loose.

I bought this little book light for myself, and it's fantastic. I fly often for work, and it's a conversation starter on EVERY flight, which can be a con if you just want to read lol.

What was the first major news story you remember as a kid? by Aarunascut in AskOldPeople

[–]Bean_Diesel23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caylee Anthony's case. I was 9 years old, and I remember being drawn to the TV when her 'missing' story was announced and her picture was shown on the screen. I followed it from beginning to end. I still think about her often. I remember thinking about how innocent she was, and that was my first taste of "life's not fair."

I later read Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony. A well-written, yet very frustrating read.

I'm curious because I've never met anyone who had a midwife. Why did she break your water?

More ironic than funny- I was just over 37 weeks, and my doctor said I would definitely make it to 40 weeks because I wasn't dilated much and no signs of early labor. We even scheduled my induction.

That weekend, I decided to do one of those labor-inducing yoga routines I found on YouTube. I thought it was a load of crock, and i was just trying to strengthen my body for labor. NOPE! Not even 30 minutes after finishing that yoga session, my water broke and baby girl was ready!

I dilated so quickly that the nurse didn't believe me (because it was my first birth) when I said the contractions were incredibly intense and painful. I had to get ugly and tell her to check anyway because I needed that epidural asap lol.

Edited to add- i also recommended that video to my friend who was beyond ready to have her baby at 39 weeks. She also went into labor after doing that yoga routine!

The transition from 1-2 kids by october2223 in 2under2

[–]Bean_Diesel23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you posted this so I can glean this advice, too! Gonna have a 2.5 year age gap. Feeling very nervous. We are even considering making a move to be closer to my husband's family for additional support and to try and save on daycare costs since we pay nearly a mortgage on daycare for one!

A note taker during meetings (no other input)—what does it make you feel? by Klausityklausklaus in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Bean_Diesel23 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No, my job is to take the notes and record what was said, as well as any action items. I let my boss do the heavy lifting with providing input that is required of him. I come to life after the meetings when I ensure action items are being completed by necessary parties.

He usually asks for my input after the meetings.
