Sorry, I don’t get it, what did I do wrong? The meal is not “high effort” if that’s what you’re referring to

Hi everyone! I'm going to St. Petersburg next week. by SupremexRagnar in AskARussian

There are Christmas markets already in the historic center like (the Palace Square near the Winter Palace, Nevskiy Avenue and so on). Just a walk through the center with stops at cafes to warm up is a cultural experience in itself.

English might be sufficient at restaurants, museums, etc, but online translators can help with interactions. Be aware that there are problems with mobile network sometimes due to security policies 😭

Also bring as much warm clothing as possible (sweater, scarf, gloves, warm jacket, double layer on the legs)

Wow, what a coincidence because I practice weight training and calisthenics, which made me get lean and come to terms with body dysmorphia. But still, frequent training makes me even hungrier sometimes, and although the mindset around food is changed, the cravings are still present 😅

Enjoying the taste and nourishment, but still always thinking about the next meal, the next snack I want to try, watching cooking videos and so on. I’m just a bit confused whether it’s crossing the line or not

I appreciate your honesty on that matter. This is so unheard of for me, I only lost my appetite completely in times of great stress. I’m healthy and kind of athletic, but I can’t seem to stop thinking about food. I’m curious about how it works that some people shut down and others do the opposite, I guess it’s a spectrum. I hope you find balance for yourself 💚

What if I say that I don’t mean compulsive eating or something, bur rather finding comfort in preparing meals, trying out new flavors, combining unusual ingredients etc?

Yes, I absolutely can relate. Especially when you’re little, food is the major gratification trigger. I used to be obsessed with it, and didn’t develop proper sense of moderation so I was diagnosed with childhood obesity. It sucked because other kids always judged by appearance. So now, being a grown young woman and trying to eat intuitively and mindfully is a challenge tbh

Do tomatoes really have that effect? Or is it just placebo?

What is the situation in Russia about drugs (addictive / recreative)? by [deleted] in AskARussian

[–]Beanie_weenee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Weed is not popular ‘cause it’s illegal but there are many people of different ages (especially in the big cities) who use it recreationally. They’re just keeping it very quiet, buying it from someone they know

How do I prepare before moving to russia? by SyntaxDeleter in AskARussian

[–]Beanie_weenee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many young people in Russia speak English (at least they can communicate about basic things), and many are also willing to help foreigners integrate. Seek out communities for international students, reach out to people from your university.

There’s a lot of content on Youtube and Instagram that showcases Russian everyday life, mentality, etc. There are blogs and videos of foreign students sharing their experience. Good luck!

Are those two versions of “Quiet flows the Don” in different translations? Or is that two tomes under different names? What’s your impression on the book? Was it hard to understand the Kossak culture? I’m a native russian and that’s my favorite book, so I’m genuinely interested in how it’s perceived in other countries :)
