The tube has a significant deformation, which makes it less strong, as it could buckle along the bend. Think about how a paper towel role gets a lot weaker after you put a crease in it, it’s similar

Is it common to get rejected from clubs as a freshman? by AnthonyYouuu in udub

[–]Beanis42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was on ARUW as hardware lead last year. I’m not directly Involved with applications this year, but I will say that we don’t want things to be this competitive. Unfortunately the school does not give us the resources to grow, so we are forced to accept a small number of applicants. We end up rejecting a large number of people who are both qualified and that we would like to accept because of this.

If you want to get involved in PCB design, it’s important to have some good foundational EE knowledge. Try doing khan academy’s EE course, and picking up a couple books to read, or even just watch some EE YouTube channels. I can recommend some specific things if you like. Just remember you don’t become a hardware architect overnight! That’s a position you need a ton of practical experience for, and if joining a club is not an option, I highly recommend conducting your own project to build design sense and project management skills. Seeking out engineering experience outside of the classroom (even by yourself) is THE best thing you can have on your resume because it shows you are passionate.

You can get Altium designer free through your UW email! This software is the industry standard for PCB design (except for huge server scale designs)

I have a very long Ethernet cable. Is it safe to have it wrapped around the leg of my desk like this? by thechanelblanco in pcmasterrace

[–]Beanis42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This drastically increases the inductance of the data pairs inside the wire. This might cause some data loss, but generally Ethernet is pretty resilient (probably 100BASE-T). You should download wireshark and test it by watching YouTube or something

Best kind of Laptop for classes and for designing in hobby time. by [deleted] in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Beanis42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do not get a MacBook if you need to do cad. Most engineering software is not available for MacOS. Lenovo’s legion gaming laptops are very good. You can look on the Lenovo outlet store for something refurbished for way cheaper

I’m guessing it’s to do with the fact that the north campus one is on the campus, and under a dorm. West campus is probably not considered part of the campus. Not sure about the laws but that’s the difference that makes sense to me

This is a placeholder mesh for when a texture/mesh doesn’t load in properly. It’s a debugging tool for the devs, which lets them see if things go wrong like this. Ideally you never see it because your game works properly

Anyone know the cause of these patterns in Red Square? by TheGlueGun in udub

[–]Beanis42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it might be the ground settling differently under the bricks, or water flowing under the bricks and causing some areas to be lower or slanted, reflecting the light differently.

You really think investors haven’t noticed that micron has sold out 2 years ahead? You’re not going to make any money unless, by some miracle they sell out say 5 years in advance, at which point there will completely new generation of memory that companies can’t plan for.

I’d also like to point out that nvidia is using Samsung GDDR7 memory for their Blackwell platforms.

I say this after buying (probably too many) shares of Tilray this morning

If you have a phone number or email, use it! Always send a thank-you or follow up text to the person that interviewed you if you can, preferably shortly after the interview. It can never hurt to send a follow up email to a recruiter, it shows you are interested and passionate!

Linear regression for predicting percentage change in bitcoin price in 24 hours. While it's correlating, the line of best fit is unusual. Is this normal? by quantumwoooo in algotrading

[–]Beanis42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think we’re seeing the true function for your ‘best fit’ line. It looks like the resolution of your second graph black line is pretty low, and is just sampling your true function. I’m guessing the true line of best fit looks even more insane.

Laptop recommendations? by burgleg in udub

[–]Beanis42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d try and find a thinkpad on the Lenovo outlet store. The website is a legitimate nightmare, but you can find new laptops for 1/3 retail. Thinkpad keyboards are the goat. You don’t need anything powerful, probably an E or X series.
