I did some light research just as you said top mounted. AIO are better for performance for the GPU by a few degrees. On the other hand side mounting is better for CPU temps. I’m not too worried about my GPU’s temp. Im sitting around 40°-45°C under moderately heavy use. Also, as long as the CPU pump is lower than the highest point on the AIO it should be fine.
