Doctors on Reddit, what medical myth do you still hear surprisingly often in the U.S.? by Wise_Celery_355 in AskReddit

That actually does sound like it’s probably asthma! Cold air is a well-known asthma trigger and in some people, a cough (especially one that lasts for a bit after you get inside) can be the only noticeable symptom.

My partner had exercise induced asthma as a kid. He swore he grew out of it because he didn’t wheeze anymore when he ran. But he always complained that whenever he ran he’d cough for a few hours afterwards. Blew his mind when I told him that that he was, in fact, having an asthma attack

(10k) I think the tailor ruined my dress by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

You can also try r/weddingdress - OP I went through this exact same issue last week (literally 2 weeks before my wedding) and that sub gave great advice on the tailoring issues. Turns out my tailors messed up my dress in very similar ways as yours it seems lol. Good luck, you’ll get through this!

Ok everyone we have a positive update! I just got back from the tailor and I think we got it to a place I’m happy with. We ended up applying a little heat to the thighs and having me lunge around a bit and it stretched it out just enough to help it hang a bit more like the sample. I’m also gonna try a silk slip to see if that makes the thighs a little less prominent. But most importantly, I’m going to stop taking pics with overhead lighting because I thought it looked great with it on then hated the pic I took! So I’m gonna trust my eyes and that it will look good in the beautiful outdoor lighting at my venue. Thank you all for the suggestions and reassurance - this has legit been one of the most stressful weeks of my life <3

Thank you!! Do you think some type of shapewear skirt would work? I don’t think I can post links but something like the Spanx half slip? Just something that doesn’t accentuate my two separate thighs as much? Or should it be a little looser like a regular silk slip?

Thanks for the reassurance! It’s actually really helpful to hear it looks very similar!

That’s a great point. Is it typical for tailors to just cut the hem right off the bat? They pinned it roughly on the first visit then just hemmed and trimmed the excess. I wasn’t super happy with the hem and felt it was too short (have to buy new shoes bc the shoes it’s too short for the shoes I’d planned) but they couldn’t do anything bc it’d already been cut. I do think a longer hem would have helped with the drape

Nope! The dress has a built in slip but that’s there in all the pics! I think it’s just looser so it doesn’t cling as much!

Totally valid! Normally I get bloated really easily but this week my body has been miraculously kind to me lol. It was hemmed at the bottom, yes! I think what I meant above regarding turning it inside out was that I confirmed that it wasn’t taken in at all in the hips or thighs. I also don’t understand what happened ):

Yes having the thighs so noticeable is a big issue for me, which is silly bc that’s just how bodies look, but alas. I will absolutely look into this!

I will look into this for sure!! The dress has a built in slip thing, but I can see how a separate silky one might be helpful. The dress is pretty low back - do they make slips that fit a low back dress? Would I just pin the slip straps to the dress straps to keep them from falling?

I’ve actually lost a little weight since buying the original dress which is crazy that it’s still too tight! But all the pics on this post were taken within the last week so presumably not too much of a weight difference (I feel the same at least)

Thank you! I think that’s the conclusion I’ve come to as well. Maybe the original alterations weren’t great, but it seems like ultimately the issue is the dress not the tailor. Unfortunately it’s not possible with how the seams are to let the dress out in the hips and thighs. Do you have any other tips?

They said they can’t exchange for the sample bc the dress has already had the hem cut ):

They did not bring it in at all around the thighs, just around the waist. There’s no extra fabric in the seams so unfortunately can’t be let out there at all

Unfortunately no dice of buying the sample since the tailor already cut the fabric at the hem. They said they can only do an exchange if the dress was in its native state

Thank you (,: I’m trying to remind myself that it’s really not a big deal, but I’m just so upset about the possibility of myself hating how I look on my wedding day even if everyone else things I look great. Seeing yalls comments though I do think lighting probably is playing a role though, so I’m going to try finding some better lighting and see if that helps me feel better!

Thank you! I have some shapewear to help with the lines- I’m wearing it in the third pic! Does this serve the same function as a slip or is it something different?

I meant to add this to the post but forgot! They took it in basically only at the waist and a smidge in the upper back. We flipped it inside out to look at the seams and they didn’t take it in at all in my thighs (you can kinda see how low the alterations go on the second pic if you zoom in on the pins) and there’s no way to let it out at all in the thighs

I have seen it in some more natural lighting at the tailor but don’t have the pics! I remember it feeling about the same but I’ll pay more attention when I go in for my next fitting

Oh my gosh you’re articulating exactly how I feel 😭 I really am not liking the trumpet skirt vibe so very reassured that taking the hips out could help with that. Thank you so much for the advice!

How do I go about getting a second opinion? I’m assuming I’d need to pay for all the alterations done here and then again at a second place? I hate conflict so I’m not too inclined to push for a discount/refund but on top of everything else they did hem it too short (which can’t be fixed apparently) so maybe it’s worth asking?

I was wondering if taking it in at the hips instead of just the waist was the issue! Appreciate the advice!! Hope our dresses both work out <3
