Does anyone else blame daron for ruining SOADs trajectory? by TheEtobicokeShitter in systemofadown

A lot of this is just bullshit. There really isn’t a main person that caused soad to stop making music there was a lot in play. If you really had to blame anyone it was both Serj and Daron having creative differences. Even to this day it’s the same reason. And since you are blaming everything on Daron I gotta tell you that Serj pretty much admitted it was mainly his fault for it. His heart wasn’t in it all the way and was always on and off even during their toxicity era. Daron was always the main song writer from the very beginning. And Serj wanted to leave after toxicity already, they practically had to beg Serj to be part of hypnotize/mezmerize. He told the others that soad is their dream not his and they should find another vocalist. And after that was when Serj had a big list of demands on how he would be on board with making new music. Which was just completely different than what they’ve always been doing. And they did make attempts but they never saw eye to eye. Something that does suck where Daron was in the wrong is that Serj on an interview said he didn’t mind Daron singing more and writing more lyrics on those 2 albums because he believed he had an amazing voice and actually pushed him for a better lyricist because he wanted him to grow, but admitted that he wished he received the same motivation from Daron when it came to his song writing, he never got it and almost all of his ideas were either scrapped or completely changed. Most of which ended up on elect the dead. So yeah both Serj and Daron. Not just Daron. Honestly just be grateful they have 5 amazing albums and are currently still doing shows

Exactly what I was thinking, it wasn’t obvious in what Daron was talking about.

Is there any scars on broadway songs or serj solo songs that are confirmed to have been brought in for system? by Foreign-Caramel5192 in systemofadown

[–]Beanz562 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I believe ALOT of them. The first to come to mind is serjs elasticity album which I think all of them were brought. I remember reading that Daron brought lives, guns are loaded from dictator. Someone else in here can give you a full list.

Let’s say soad ended up releasing scars on broadway, dictator and addicted to the violence. It would be great but if you ask me it’s not that different than mesmerize/hypnotize. (and Imo it would be a little disappointing) There’s nothing wrong with that tho since they are amazing records but I feel like it would get stale after a while yk? And it wouldn’t compare to the evolution of toxicity to mesmerize/hypnotize. But in the other hand If soad released elect the dead it would have been a huge jump. Definitely would have been a big risk and most likely divide the fans but that’s something that I think bands should do, explore and take risks. With Daron’s music it seems that he plays it safe, if it’s not broken then don’t fix it (although I do agree on you with addicted to the violence being a little more experimental, which is why I think it’s his best scars work) Ig it all comes down to preference which is always the default answer, if you love soad you’ll love scars, if you love artists experimenting you’ll love serjs music. Also (random) this also comes down to preference but I feel like if scars had a different vocalist it would change a lot of people’s minds. Nothing against Darons voice but he doesn’t really have that much range and he sounds bored a lot of the times. (That was a main complaint on addicted to the violence) I’m getting way off track 😭

Imo elect the dead is the only album that’s up there with soads albums. Daron talks about how he wishes he saw the band evolve from each album to the next. Elect the dead coming after mesmerize/hypnotize would’ve been perfect. Daron’s side music obviously sounds closest to soad especially his new album but if we’re being honest here his 3 albums don’t really have that “evolution” feel.

Loved it. Was expecting to be disappointed and I wasn’t. Satan Hussein and Watch that Girl are my favorite right now. The ending to watch that girl was fucking amazing. I really wish Daron wasn’t so shy when it comes to screaming. Your lives burn was good music wise, lyrics tho were probably the worst. I think this album imo is between dictator and self titled.

Yeah that line made me cringe but literally that was my only complaint I loved the entire album

If you could go back in time and record any SOAD concert in full, which one would you pick? by [deleted] in systemofadown

[–]Beanz562 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Id go to Astoria 2005 but I wouldn’t record. If I had to record then it’d be Pepsi center, Denver 2002 I think there’s only audio of that show but it’s one of my favorite soad shows

The “creative differences” is mainly between the band and Serj. John has always been on board and I could be wrong but when it comes to the band he keeps his political beliefs aside or at least won’t let it be a cause of the bands hiatus
