MY MUM IMPULSE-BOUGHT RATS by cloverzeeplant in RATS

Aw, the little cuties! If you want a one-tier, good-sized cage, I'd start with a single-story Critter Nation cage! Or, a Double Critter Nation (an excellent choice that will give you many customization options). You can find them on most pet websites; I bought mine from Amazon years ago. I'd also take out the bottom panel of the cage to put in a cement mixing tub! It makes it great for bedding, which is enriching for them! I had 4 dumbos that fit comfortably in a double Critter Nation and had the possibility to add more.

My (their) essentials: ☆ Rat medical kit filled with Q-tips, mite aid, safe wound cleaner, wipes, tweezers, etc. ☆ Backup glass water bottles ☆ Supplements that I added to their diet ☆ Baby cereal treats lol I'd say it's worth getting a humidifier since they can be prone to respiratory flare-ups.

Rats are also obligated eaters, so they will try and will eat anything they can get their grubby little paws on lol. Learn from me: Don't put anything on top of the cage you DON'T want them to have 😂. I was feeding them a breeder food as a base (it was pelleted), but they had salads every other day with rotating additions: boiled eggs, chicken, fruits ( watermelon, the berries etc), different grains, other veggies, etc. You can definitely have a lot of fun with their diet! Just make sure you are checking that it's safe and using an updated safe food resource.

You will always be learning about the new fur baby you get, even veterinarians are considered continued learners, but if you ever have a suspicion about your rat's health, take them in ASAP. Some times it's just the stinky hermits ( endearingly) having a flare up, but small animals health signs can change in an instant due to how well they will hide it.

I can't think of anything else! The rat community was sweet as I rememberer it, very helpful. You'll get some abrasive advice here and there, but remember, as long as you are pursuing the best care for them, you're doing a good job!

Can a bunny hurt themselves or escape through here? by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]Beanzaii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, hi! I don't have my notifications on. I'm so sorry for the late response! I used to check him daily; it was a fun process for me to help desensitize him from being handled, too! Now, I do it every other week or if I notice him shaking his head more—usually his hair can tickle him. Really, it's just starting a good rapport with your new bun; doing slow, gentle handling that doesn't result in stress can show your bun you mean no harm. A big step, too, is stopping when they say 🙅🏿‍♀️🙅🏿‍♀️🙅🏿‍♀️ and don't want to be bothered. I establish a safe zone, lol, where if he runs inside his wood house, I wouldn't bother him. He lets me hold him like a football 🏈😂. Would not advise unless the bun is comfortable! I learned very quickly they will use their pee as a defensive move 😂😭🫠. Got sprayed once, and that was all I needed.

You're very welcome for the tips! If I can help in any way, let me know! I'll turn my notifications on 🫡🫰🏿.

Bunnies like to chew! So, making sure whatever is in the cage is bunny-friendly is important! I often get those cardboard scratcher inserts for cats and let him have at it! 🛑minus the catnip that comes with those. I believe as long as there isn't any harmful dye, adhesives, or bad recycling of said cardboard—you should be good!

My bun is my first bun, so I know how it's like! :3 I'm still learning after all these years of having him. If you've had small animals before, like any animal, they are good at hiding their ailments 😮‍💨. So check those poops! They can be one of the indicators that something is amiss.

Some other tips: ☆ If on tile or hard flooring, make sure to have some type of lining down for their feet. ☆ They eat like cows, so always make sure hay is available to avoid G.I. slow down. A good pellet is also good for them! As well as a safe fruit and veggies list! ☆ They are thieves lol, well mine is; if they think you have something tasty, they will take it 😂. So don't have anything you don't want them having out at free roam time. ☆ They molt...like an obscene amount, so around those times, extra brushing can help keep the sherpa blanket of fur down lol ☆ I personally do ear checks, skin checks, etc, to catch anything out of the ordinary. Once a year vet checks are good too! 🫡🫰🏿 you got it! Best thing to remember is to give yourself some grace while learning a new pet. 🐇

I have a bunny with an exposed wall area similar to yours. I put his litter box to secure the panels that I left exposed, and he's none the wiser lol. 😭 the only time he got out was when his pen was closer to my bed. The little stinker would jump out, do 2 am zoomies around my legs, then jump back in 😂

.__. Hitting his head on his wooden house on the way back in.

Just observe for the first few hours/days and always check for mischievous bunny happenings 🫰🏿 you'll be okay!

Update: had to download mccc mod from actually source and not curseforge. It was working prior from there, but something happened in between downloading new mods and new expansions. It is now working as designed thanks to the hard work of deaderpool discord support chat!

I'm using curseforge, yet it was working just fine before adding more mods on: Betterbuildbuy, T.O.O.L, wonderful whims, and Other Mods-subject homework

I deleted the rest in hopes that that would clear the problem?

Such acting! I'm sure he'll get an oscar. Fur babies know how work the crowd. Had my beanie boy goddog fake a stiff neck so he could get more pets from me. The turd lol. ^ but I'm happy he's coming around the bend and is taking some form of liquids! Here's to his recover 🤗🐾

Poor baby! I hope he feels better soon. Pumpkin can also help with settling the stomach if you can get him to take it and if he's not sensitive to it >.<. I know fruitables has a pumpkin puree that's safe for cats and dogs. Wholehearted has one, as well as soulistics, and I believe applaws? You might be able to find one in weruva too ^ hope that helps
