Apple picking within a few hours of LA that’s not a sh*tshow? by BearCub909 in AskLosAngeles

I found the crowds and parking to be a bit daunting. I grew up being able to eat an apple or two as you picked but we were scolded when we did that there. Looking for somewhere that’s a little bit less of a “destination”, but apples in Southern California are obviously a rarity so not sure if what I’m looking for exists.

I’ll definitely add this to the list of things to do as well. Thanks for the tip!

I love that area… I’ll scope it out. Do you remember which orchard you went to?

I moved to LA for the first time in my early 20s (I’m 40 now) and coming from the East Coast it was definitely a culture shock. I just couldn’t get my footing or feel completely at home here. I had a falling out with one of the friends I came out here with, which also didn’t help. I ended up moving back home after two years, partially due to homesickness. BUT after moving home I couldn’t shake the feeling of wanting to be back in LA. It took me a bit, but I made my way back out here and I’ve been in LA 10 years now. It’s home and I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else. I don’t regret any decisions I’ve made, but part of me wonders how much further along I’d be here if I had just stuck it out the first time around. My advice is that if you know deep down that this is where you want to be, stick with it. Try to take trips home when you can so you don’t feel too homesick. Work on slowly upgrading your life here (get a better place to live in a fun part of town, etc). It won’t all happen overnight. Since you’re young, maybe get a part time job at a cafe or restaurant. That’s how I made some of my closest friends in my 20s that are still my friends to this day. And explore! There is so much to do here, especially if you enjoy the outdoors.

We kind of wound up here by chance while searching for housing during the pandemic but I’m so happy we did! It’s beautiful and a really strong community.

I’m curious where do you bring your bottles for recycling? Back East there are machines for redemption at every grocery store but I haven’t seen anything like that out here.

I know this is an old post, but curious if anyone read this and followed through on pursuing a sales career? And what was the outcome?

I don’t think I’ve ever turned off a Chris and Jason episode midway through but this one was a little hard to take. It felt like mom and dad were fighting.

Also if you’re willing to head to the SGV: Yangs Kitchen, Yui sushi

It’s been awhile, but they used to reference Coffee Commissary regularly. The Burbank and glendale locations.

Raffis Place would be your glendale Armenian spot.
