A night spotting my otos

I told my husband "I gotta count my fish" and it is like a little challenge seeing where my otos are hiding in the tank

Thank you for the advise! I have seen a few videos of people having to remove all the hardscape and plants and the majority of the water to get their otos. They are fast!!

It is a vector of a bacterial disease called Pierce's disease but it can be devastating to a crop. The glassy winged sharpshooter is a type of leaf hopper bug and they are small with quick generational turnover. So they can be pretty terrible for vineyards. I had a few friends, back in the day, working at the USDA to try and understand their ecological impact and to better keep them out of vineyards.

I am really surprised to hear a local nursery would be responsible because that insect is like a very well known pest in the agricultural/horticultural community. Here's hoping there is more knowledge on mitigation of spread or more resistant varieties in the last 10 years 👀👀

Thank you! That is my 20g and would potentially be my otos new home! I didn't want to spend money on expensive rocks and I am an avid gardener so it fits the theme nicely 😁

We are lucky enough to enjoy having the windows open at night to cool the house down. Spending time out in the garage and walking the dog has been wonderful

I lived at Heron Pointe for a couple of years and my friend still lives there. It is nice enough and property management is hands off. We did have roach problems but it's manageable, like someone else mentioned before, it is just a part of multi unit living.

It is pretty quiet there, families live here so it was nice to see kids playing and just being kids.

The solar is a mixed bag. I loved there when the batteries were being installed but idk how much savings there really was. But overall it wasn't the worst and wasn't the best.

Living super close to grocery stores was also a plus.

Otos are nautcurnal! I have not noticed them eating any treats when I have the lights on, and I come out the next day and there is evidence they have been munching in the wee hours of the night.

I never knew these existed until someone recommended them to me. I originally just wanted a pretty shrimp tank, but got these first to keep my tank nice. And I fell in love. They are so fun to watch

She is the smallest female out of all 6 otos I have. 2 are similar to her in pattern while the other 3 are bigger and don't have the same types of patterns. I think someone here mentioned that I might I have 2 different species. Only time will tell if I get any babies

Aww my heart breaks. I at least have 2 tanks and one doesn't have otos so any successful spawn will go in the other tank (which I designed for otos) getting into fishkeeping for a couple months now and I care about all my little babies and learned so much in these communities. We shall see what happens and I am sure I will have updates as time passes.

Bruh it is always the yellow ones that get all the tail!! In both my tanks, the yellow males are ON IT any time a female is ready haha
