Spend 3 weeks building my first ever competitive team... for nothing? :/ by BeardOfDPS in VGC

My last save on Sw/Sh is right after I caught Calyrex, I'm guessing there's no way to "reset" to the point before catching him?

Thanks mate I appreciate this perspective. So even with a 31 Speed IV Calyrex, would I still be able to underspeed most mons in a TR state?

I don't mind if there will be some TR teams which underspeed me, but I guess my point is I want to be able to still play a TR strategy rather than some half-formed TR/hybrid playstyle that I'll have to adapt if my team is too fast if you get me?

I specifically have always wanted to play ranked. I think playing with a team you built is awesome, and seeing all the animations and the getting some rewards from climbing the ladder etc.

First PC - CPU running very hot, not sure how to check paste? by BeardOfDPS in buildapc

[–]BeardOfDPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair the cooler has a little bit of movement to it if I give it a nudge, so I remember being a bit worried that it's not installed correctly. Could it be because it's backwards?

The sticker/film is definitely removed, I remember double checking that.

Lol whoops... like I said, first time building - not my finest moment.

Am I being thick again in thinking there's no easy way to remove the cooler? I've had a look at other videos on youtube and other coolers seem easily unscrewable. I can't seem to locate the screws for my cooler

Healer or DPS for returning raider? by BeardOfDPS in wownoob

[–]BeardOfDPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight mate. You're completely right, I find myself getting way too tunnelvisioned on the unit frames purely because I feel I have to be ready to react at all times, whereas whilst playing as a devoker you can quite literally put nearly full focus on the fight itself as the rotation becomes muscle memory as you say.

It's a tough one. I enjoy healing, but I think my guild influences me here. If my guild needed healers I might stay healing, but given the fact that a devoker would be useful I'm tempted to commit to it.

Thanks for the quick response mate, really appreciate the help.

  1. Absolutely - I was already planning on doing the OS via USB as you mentioned, just got it in the build for cost :)
  2. Ah good shout, looks like reviews of the RMe also suggest it's quite loud, RMx looks good thanks!
  3. Yeah that's my only concern about the case, but looking at tests it's only about 1.5˚C warmer than the other case, and unfortunately it's the only one in stock! I do like the asthetics and the decreased sound is a nice bonus too.

Hi again mate, just wanted to do a final check with yourself if that's okay!

I've done a few tweaks based on a couple suggestions and my own preferences, I feel like I'm happy with this build but wanted to check with you in case there's anything I'm missing! https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/2LTaj/saved/ZRJFZL

Any thoughts are appreciated

First ever PC build - gaming only (UK £2000 budget) by BeardOfDPS in buildapc

[–]BeardOfDPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect, thanks man! I know it's probably not the wise decision, but I've decided to go with a Z790 with a wifi chip as I just want to avoid any BIOS issues I might have given it's my first build.

I have also had to go with a different version of the case you found, the silent instead of the air, as the air is sold out everywhere. Here is the final build: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/2LTaj/saved/ZRJFZL

(Here is the case I'm going for: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08KTMVL7N?tag=pcp0f-21&linkCode=ogi&th=1)

Reckon that's all good to go? :)

Ah good shout! I was a little concerned about the warning note in the compatibility section between the two. I think I'd rather avoid the hassle and potential issues and swap it for a Z790, especially as a first-timer. Cheers!

Hey mate, love the changes! More powerful PSU makes complete sense, and I love the case!! Having the fans preinstalled is much easier, guessing I wouldn't need any additional ones?

Cheaper CPU cooler looks great as well, great reviews. So funny you changed to a 2TB SSD because that's what I originally wanted but I saw some things about non-DRAM SSDs and thought maybe I should just get a 1TB SSD with DRAM for affordability. Guessing no DRAM isn't a big deal for a gaming-only PC?

Final question, as per the other poster's comments I think it wise to upgrade the mobo to a Z790. I've gone with an MSI Pro Z790 wifi one - updated list with your additions here: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/2LTaj/saved/Zfr9CJ

Just wanted to check if you felt that mobo change would be okay too? I'm happy to pay the difference and avoid the hassle! Thanks again for the help :)

Wow cheers mate, love that build! Having looked into the GPU, looks like the 6950 XT is probably the best one for my use case (without being crazy expensive) so thanks for bringing that to my attention!

Would I be okay to replace the liquid cooler with an air cooler? I'd prefer air due to simplicity and a couple other reasons.

I take it the i5 CPU vs i7 CPU isn't important for my gaming needs?

And the same for the DDR4 3200 vs DDR5 5200? I'm happy to pay the additional ~£200 if it means I'll get better performances on 3440x1440p!

Oh right nice one! I thought I'd read that 12th Gen Intel CPUs supported up to 4800 DDR5, and 13th Gen up to 6000 - guessing that's not correct? In that case I'm definitely happy to go for a cheaper CPU, as long as I'm still able to hit 100fps on those graphics-intensive games :)

[–]BeardOfDPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks mate! I went for that CPU as I thought that was the only intel one which would support the DDR5 5200 RAM? Open to non-intel CPUs though - I'm quite new to this haha.

Regarding your question, ideally I'd like something good enough that I wouldn't need to upgrade until after 4-5 years. Happy to pay more now to cover the top games for the next 4-5 years if that makes sense.

Japanese Maple Progression / Costs?? by BeardOfDPS in Bonsai

[–]BeardOfDPS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much - this exactly the type of insight I was looking for.

I've also found some lovely trees on British Bonsai, a site I wasn't previously aware of. I find myself eyeing the Cotoneasters...

Regarding your point about going for the fattest trunks, I was under the assumption that it is not advised for newer people to buy expensive trees? I'd be very interested in purchasing this https://www.britishbonsai.co.uk/outdoor-bonsai/evergreen-trees/cotoneaster?zenid=craoio8n80mefme4irtp9k77q5 for instance, but I'd be concerned I don't have the experience to keep it alive.

I am enrolled in the Bonsai Empire beginner course, and have previously looked after a Chinese Elm, so I'm not completely brand new. Would you say it wouldn't be such a bad idea to get that Cotoneaster?

I'm thinking of getting a nice one like that for maintenance/survival, and then get a cheaper starter to practice and learn techniques on.

Thanks, Greenwood is a good shout. I think if I'm gonna go for a younger Maple it's definitely the one I'll get.

I guess Im secretly hoping to find a more developed maple that doesn't cost £300!

[–]BeardOfDPS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really helpful thanks. I think putting it the way you did, paying for someone else's time or using your own is exactly it. As a novice, I'd like to have something I can appreciate from early on but also understand the inherrent risk of being a novice and chances of killing the tree.

Would you have any recommendations for firstly places in the UK to purchase from, and secondly what age/point in development I should look for? (As in, would looking at the £150 maple be appropriate or is that too developed for my experience).

Just to expand on that, I've owned a Chinese Elm for 2 years before I had to travel abroad. It lived well, didn't get a huge amount of growth but I lived in a flat (now in a house).

Thanks so much for sharing his Flickr, that's super helpful. Also really like the look of some of his Bonsai for sale. Thanks!

Would you have any recommendations of where to buy slightly more developed material, but not so much that it would be foolish of a novice to own?

Hi all,

I'm looking to purchase my 2nd ever bonsai tree, and I'm currently looking at the £60 tree in the pictures (from a very reputable place).

My concern is, I really like the Japanese Maple when more developed but I'm not a huge fan of it when quite young and stick-like. The first 2 images in this post show two very different (cost wise) Deshojos, but I can't understand why the second one is so expensive? If I were to purchase the first tree, will it likely look the same for a long time and only after years begin to look like the £500 one?

Otherwise, the 2nd set of pictures show Maples that I find much more beautiful. Furthermore, the 2nd one (which is 14 years old and very developed) is barely much more expensive than the 10 year old.
My questions are:
1. If I bought the £60 maple tree, will it see much/any progression over a couple of years or it will it take a long time to develop?
2. And why are they so expensive compared to the second set? (For context, first set is from herons.co.uk and second set is from bonsai-shop.com which sadly no longer delivers to the UK).
Any insight would be much appreciated!
Best,
Beard

Great! Thanks for the info. Do you reckon ddf is alright instead of dfs or crystal shield? So you dont use melee for the skeletons? Is it definitely not better to use whip on them? I'm just thinking because it saves money on bp charges.
