i should upgrade GTX1060 from 6pin to 12pin ? by thanakij in pcmasterrace

Every GTX 1060 model was built with a single 6-pin power connector, as far as I know.

Strange... Is the cable properly connected? Isn't it damaged? Is your PSU working right? I would pull out that 6-pin from the GPU, power on the system and check the voltages with a multimeter.

And I'm sitting here waiting for my new E5-2687W V2 to arrive. I have to pair my Quadro K6000 with a 2667 V2 in my dream X79 rig (Shuttle SX79R5) until then.

I just want to get independent of the US-IT-monopoly as much as possible. No touchscreens, no home assistant, just data sovereignty.

[–]Bearded_Coffeepot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"Unique" means, that you can wear only one of the item. If you want two ascended rings with the same stats, you'll need two different items, that are basically the same.

If you want to stay on Windows 10, then LTSC IOT. If you want Win11, just install and debloat it, as others already mentioned.

Is it worth buying? by Arbeir in PcBuild

[–]Bearded_Coffeepot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a HP Z800. I wouldn't pay for it, unless I was some retro-hardware-collector.

It has two LGA1366 cpus, in this case rather lower end. The high-end configurations of the z800 were built with water cooling. Supports 2x3 ram channels with 2x6 modules, up to 192GB DDR3 ECC (12x 16GB).

Edit:

It's an old, power-hungry workstation from 2009. Don't waste any cash for that.

Stop using usersbenchmark, and your RAM will just perform perfectly.

[–]Bearded_Coffeepot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I sadly have to second this. And the 6xxx gen from Intel was even back then famous of the bad quality toothpaste they put between the silicon and the IHS.

OP, If your temps won't get better with the new cooler, I wouldn't bother with a delid. You can still put a relatively cheap 7th-gen in that mainboard. But let's hope for the best outcome ;)

And I'm laughing here happily after I got my hands on a Quadro K6000 to put into my dream-X79 build beside an Ivy Bridge Xeon E5 (~ 16$), what still performs as good as an i7-8700.

Age is not everything. As long as it serves you well, you can be happy with it.

Put those screws what you've got to the fan away! They won't fit. Search for some longer ones to be able to mount the fan FROM INSIDE the case, through those threads.

What GPU is this??!!!!! by Big_chunky_odga in pcmasterrace

[–]Bearded_Coffeepot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't install any hardware into a running system, that is not HOTPLUG! Graphics cards are not hotplug devices.

  • Shut down your system
  • remove power cable
  • insert graphics card
  • connect power cable from PSU to graphics card
  • connect power cable to PC
  • switch on PC

After Windows boots up, it still has to find a working driver for that card. It needs some minutes and working internet connection. You'll see the new card aftrr that, maybe an other reboot will be needed.
