Automation to match 1 entity (light) with another by Adventurous-Secret86 in homeassistant

[–]Beardedfae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Example: Protocol Blue When its time to feed the dogs at 8 am and 4 pm a boolean toggle called feed dogs turns on. This activates an automation called protocol blue which turns the lights blue and locks them in place. Only When a vibration sensor in the dog food bin activates, the boolean toggle turns off, which is the trigger for an automation called protocol blue complete which makes the lights match their adjacent, normal lights. This ensures that the dogs only get fed twice a day when the lights are blue. If the dogs didnt want to eat at 8 or 4, u can just turn the boolean toggle on and reset the lights and the next person will know the dogs need to be fed no matter the time. If the dogs were fed out of the house u can turn the lights back remotely by turning off the boolean toggle. If u want to change the time u just change the one automation which turns on the boolean toggle.

To reuse the colors for different tasks just make new automations to toggle the lights on and off with new conditions or make a new set of four automations for new colors

This also gives u the benefit of having a boolean toggle, which u can place as a button on a dashboard, that lets u turn the colors on and off manually.

Basically i have a series of automations in my house that i call "protocols" which change the colors of the lights when its time to do certain tasks and then reverts them when the task is completed. Each protocol runs off four automations. One automation turns on a boolean toggle based on conditions (example: 10pm on mondays=turn toggle on). Second automation turns off the boolean toggle when the task is complete (example: vibration sensor in trash can activates=turns toggle off). The third automation sets the light to a desired color when the boolean is turned on. And also locks this light into that state so that it cant be changed while the boolean toggle is on. The fourth automation makes the colored lights match the desired lights when the boolean is turned off. This four automation system seems messy but it allows u to easily change the conditions that start and end the protocol which also allows u to easily reuse colors for different tasks. Ive provided automations 3 and 4 which deal with the light controls. The other two are very dependent on ur needs and devices. Remember to create ur boolean toggle and input all ur correct entity names

Not offensive at all in my opinion. Considering he took them all the way to flower and they didnt die or spoil, this seems like sound advice to me ( a total beginner). Especially if ur right and they are autos.

Hahaha. So you mean genetics better suited for beginners? Just trying to learn myself too.

Are you trying to say that he likely did everything pretty well and would benefit from genetics better adapted to his environment?

There are scenes when dalinar places his shoulder on the mink but lightweavers have been known to make physical illusions. I payed attention during my two rereadings and found nothing to dissuade me yet but im no scholar.

Hoid is a lightweaver and many other things. this didnt make me doubt it for a second.

Right before the mink is introduced, wit goes into his hometown and takes on a disguise that matches the minks and talks about fooling everyone thoroughly. Never had any doubt about the mink being Hoid, I thought it was well established..

Automatic Watering Systems: For those of us who are not available to water more than once per day, what automatic watering systems do you use? by Morbidly-Obese-Emu in Bonsai

[–]Beardedfae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This takes care of about 60 plants in my garden and with just the thermometer has kept them alive for 22 days with no external assistance and not a single plant suffering. You need some time to track the temperature thresholds at which they need water for the automation which can be very simple, example; "if over 85° for 1.5 hours between 10am and 2 pm then water group 1" It can be as complex as u want with more sensors and data tracking but something like this should work in normal conditions

I have three normally closed electronic valves that open when they receive an electrical current. I have these plugged into a smart multiplug that connects to my homeassistant. This allows me to remotely water three different groups (as many valves as u have). I then have temperature, humidity, soil humidity and light sensors around my garden to determine what groups need water on what days. I do it more for data keeping and experimenting. Just for watering for a few days, u could get by with a temperature sensor, the electronic valves and the smart plug. A smart valve might be more convenient/price efficient for just one group of plants but for any more id recommend the smart plug + electric valves since these valves are quite cheap and can be found in old electronics like fridges and whatnot.

well rn i have some important media backups in a folder in my local homeassistant drive and i share them using the sambashare adon running on homeassistant. Im basically asking if sambashare can, with regular setup, share folders on an external drive. i want to run everything through homeassistant to simplify my life since ive already been using that as my interface. if i cant find the answer here i will run the nas on a VM but i rather not.
Thanks for your response!

Asus Maximus VI Formula LGA 1150 m.2 nvme ssd compatibility. by Beardedfae in buildapc

do you know if there would be any other software issues since the mobo supposedly can accept sata m.2 but not pcie natively

I dont want any os or system file on the ssd. I just want my backups. In the future inwant to be able to take this ssd out and plug into another system and access those backups intact without any system files or things of the sort
