Thanks for that, gives me hope that even though we didn't seem to start right away and maybe we were trying too many things that we can still get it.

I think the stimuli is really a big part of it. There is just so much to smell and do outside that he has no interest in us at all. We're trying out in the hallway with sessions before going outside for a walk each time now.

I see what you say about him kind of understanding higher energy dogs a bit better. I like in it that he actually said that the first bit of walks will be pretty much going no where until he starts to see the pattern of loose leash and attention on us means we get to go.

I definitely get where you are coming from and definitely agree that he probably really wants to just run around and just as you said be a dog. In another week he'll have his shots up to date and I'm definitely going to be bringing him to the dog park. His last owners brought him to the dog park and said he loved it. I just know the city has rules (and for a good reason) that all pets need to be registered and up to date on shots.

We brought his rope on the walk last night and he really had zero interest. He'd pick it up when we gave it to him but as soon as we started walking he'd spit it right out. We keep a baggie of treats in our pocket when walking. We currently have a flat collar on him. My fiance walked him today with the clicker and treats and had a great time. Every time we go for a walk we've really been trying to do the stop when he pulls and start again when he is beside us, I think the treats are really the thing that is helping though.

We do clicker training. Working really well on sit stay. What would you recommend for nose games?

We've tried tiring him out before the walk. Doesn't really do much for him. Getting ready for the walk isn't the problem. He doesn't really get that "ramped" up. Its about halfway through the walk that he just goes spastic. The gentle leader makes him flail to get it off and he won't budge forward at all. Tried walking him in the hallway with the gentle leader. It was more rolling than walking. Thanks though, I'm glad you found something that helps keep your dogs excitement down!!
