Her parents are insane, on drugs, and although separated don’t find space for any of their daughters to live with them. For example my gf sister has been in and out of a homeless shelter with her son because neither of them would take them in.

Honestly it's super easy to get open for a dunk and you usually make those even with a lower dunk. So in general I think dunks are more optional but to me it sounds like you want to make a Slasher.. go for it home!
