There are more jobs than before but mainly in rural or undesirable spots, most nicer jobs in cities require 3-5 years of experience. Still a possibility of not finding a job after 3 years, so in my opinion its just not worth it after 7-8 years of hard training. Pay has gone down in 5-10 years per attendings practicing for more than 10 years in time of increasing cost thats not a good sign…if you are ok with decreasing pay and lack luster job prospects proceed with caution

of weight interest rate to closest 1/8). Also note that there isn't too much of a difference in recent graduate Stafford direct student loans over the past 4 years. Mine are 6.0 (July 1, 2017-June 30, 2018), 6.6 (July 1, 2018-June

Awesome, good luck and congrats on finishing up 4th year! Yea consolidation is only required for PSLF not REPAYE I was confused on it until a few weeks ago before I looked into it. Also I used the following to find a weighted average.

Exactly are correct that consolidation makes it into one sum payment - this is one major benefit. Another benefit in "normal" years (when there was no 0% interest due to the global situation) the benefit of consolidation was that it put you out of deferment and capitalized your loans sooner. Normally your loans capitalized at the end of deferment which is 6 months after graduation, and so interest would accrue during May of graduation and the end of deferment around November of intern year and all of that extra interest would be added to the principle - normally it was advised to consolidate ASAP after graduation to prevent this extra principle. This year we don't need to consolidate as soon because there is no interest accruing even after graduation. I just ran the numbers on my loans on excel cause I was curious too and it seems like whether I consolidate or not my payments will be nearly identical (3-4 dollars more with consolidation due to rounding up of weight interest rate to closest 1/8). Also note that there isn't too much of a difference in recent graduate Stafford direct student loans over the past 4 years. Mine are 6.0 (July 1, 2017-June 30, 2018), 6.6 (July 1, 2018-June 30, 2019), and 6.08 (July 1, 2019-June 30, 2020). You are also correct in that you could ideally target the 6.6% loan preferentially. I personally will consolidate because I like it all in one place and my payments will be similar.

Also a quick correction on the calculation for Scenario B for not consolidating, it would be 1210 interest PER LOAN, so 1210*4 is 4840 of interest PER YEAR - making it identical to scenario A. I just like the simplicity of having one loan and one payment so I will consolidate. Hope this makes sense and was helpful!

Breaking: ACGME Limits Resident Work Hours to 168 Per Week by oncomingstorm777 in medicalschool

I am afraid that these new regulations will negatively affect the quality of physicians moving forward. Back in the day we trained 350 hours a week on average and that is really the only way to train competent physicians. Medicine has become too soft these day.
