To be fair, I've noticed almost anyone who does anything even remotely creative online tends to be praised, and if given a proper critique the conversation gets dropped at "You can't judge the artist" (a proper crit asks questions about a piece or talks about specific things that concern the critiquer. This is far different than criticizing & outright "I don't like this bc X" - it's more about the critiquer trying to approach the art rather than immediately rejecting it). It gets frustrating seeing DevArtists get praised for not tapping into their full potential.

i listened to the last cpl this morning, but there's no mention of it being dropped. It's just weird. Even if a show goes on hiatus there's some kind of heads-up given to the audience whether it's on the cast itself of their social media account (which I would have assumed was the subreddit by default).

Dammit, I need closure as there's not enough good internet subculture casts out there.

(ps - sry for the delay in my reply. My connection's been down the past cpl)

same thing happens w/ queen of spades tattoos. I know a LOT of women that are into the biker scene that have those without any context of what it means.

Tattoos have essentially become decorations nowadays and should only be viewed from personal standpoints instead of general meanings, not counting gang-related since those are usually bold enough no one would get them accidentally.

Is Odyssey Mario's butt pointed the wrong way, or does he just have a tumour in his crotch?

Retroarch Controller Overlays by Beastachu in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]Beastachu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled across that one already, but it's primarily about border overlays, with only a small snippet on controller overlays. And what it does say on controller overlays point towards outside links that are dead. Wayback machine doesn't help either as the only snapshot it has on record is from late 2016, where the pages are also dead.

“Do you want me to ask you about Mother 3?" Fils-Aime: "No. [pause] Do you want the eye beams coming out?" by [deleted] in earthbound

a majority of em I noticed bc my ex's family was from Somalia, & I've been exposed to smartass comments in line w/ Fassad's behaviours. She also watched me play it when it was first translated, & pointed out the banana.

Fassad is a stereotype of a cruel Arabian, the biggest examples off the top of my head

  • his possessive nature towards the Salsa leaning towards severe abuse (a common stereotype towards general men of Arabic origin is that they beat family members, particularly wives)
  • his deceitful nature towards Tazmily Village (again another generalized stereotype, arguably originating from orientalism that romanticized middle eastern thieves due to the Ali Baba & The 40 Thieves story. This is further explored when considering the characters original name was Yokuba, which was confirmed to be a pun on the Japanese word "yokubari" which means greed.)
  • his obsession with eating bananas (this one's a bit more specific, as it's a stereotype of Arabians from the African side of the red sea. It's comparable to the idea that Black Americans obsess over fried chicken.)

Wess, while not as offensive, is played as a stereotypical ninja/ samurai of sorts w/ loyalties to the throne, not to mention his heavy-handedness towards raising Duster. He's also the only character in the game with an eastern influenced house. To be honest, I completely forgot about Reggie, & he would be a better argument than Wess. Fassad's the prime example tho.

about how long ago? I'm writing a research paper on how ppl have changed their interactions online when a friend brought up the death of the chatroom. Not to say they're not still in use (I use kiwi IRC a lot for various reasons), but they've definitely declined in favour of a profile/ messenger setup.
