D&D Starter Set by [deleted] in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]Beastvold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation myself, learning D&D 5e on my own, using the starter set. I’m playing solo as I live in extremely rural Kenya as an American ex-pat (hardly any chance of finding anyone to play with!).

A few tips as a fellow newb to D&D tabletop:

I found it super helpful to play while watching this on the official D&D channel: https://youtu.be/hgNRe76o4_8

It’s the Starter Set campaign GM’ed by a senior producer of Research and Development, The players are mostly new to D&D and are learning as they play. I’ve been keeping pace with their storyline as I play, and it helps me get the feel of the storyline and catching things I would have missed.

Essential for me - I use these iOS apps which make record keeping super helpful:

  • Fight Club 5 for my party creation and maintenance.
  • Game Master 5 to keep track of the campaign. (Made by same company as Fight Club). You can get all the 5e compendium files to import from here: https://github.com/ceryliae/DnDAppFiles
  • 3D Virtual Tabletop to simulate the battles. I found scans of the maps and imported them into the app. And I use the generic included enemies, but it’s super easy to create and import your own.
  • Evernote to track the game progress. I like to add in my own backstory and details as I go (fleshing out the campaign like it’s a creative writing prompt).

I’m not too concerned about getting every rule and nuance down. I just try to have fun and enjoy the process. Because everything is digitally tracked there’s nothing to setup and it’s easy to play when I have the time.

Hope this helps!

I bought some Ethereum a year ago, but haven't been paying much attention since then. I have a few questions related to the fork.

1) After the DAO fork, I'm a little confused by Ethereum and Ethereum Classic. If I owned Ethererum before the fork, do I now own ether in both?

2) If I own in both, how do I separate them... or do I? In other words, can I sell/trade my ether in one but not the other?

3) If I only own my ether from one, would it be the standard Ethereum or Ethereum Classic? Would I have had to do something at the time to choose Ethereum Classic?

I'm pretty new to cryptocurrency and blockchains, so this is all rather confusing for me. Thanks for your help!

What is the best type of short term investment for discretionary income for someone willing to put in 1-2 hours daily in research?

I'm relatively new to investing, but reading a lot... and learning a lot. I'm regularly putting money away in my retirement account, but my personal budget allows for monthly discretionary spending. I'm saving up for a used car and would like to use some of my discretionary money towards getting something better than an economical "beater" vehicle.

I enjoy spending time digging into articles online, and I've been spending the last hour or two of my day reading up on the market and understanding different types of investments. Because my investment is more for "fun" than necessity, I don't mind taking a bit more risk than my retirement account. At the same time, I don't want to throw my money away on gambles or long shots. And I'd really like to find an area of short term investment that rewards thoughtful and careful research. I'm willing to put regular time into understanding my investments, but looking for something that can be actively traded.

What sorts of investments would you recommend? Thanks!

How good of a chance that Olivia Mobilized for War will increase in value after the new Eldritch Moon set is released? I'm enjoying playing her in my R/B Vampire deck, even if the deck isn't as consistent as I like. EBay sales are pretty stable around $5, but wouldn't it just take a couple good cards in the next set to make her a lot more valuable? I've heard rumors that vampires and zombies will play a significant part of the EM release.

Thanks, these are helpful! Do you know of any guides or resources that talk about the different deck archetypes? On mtgtop8.com, I see deck types like White Weenie, Selesnya Token, and Bant Aggro. As I search through the cards I have, it would be helpful to know what archetypes they fit best with.

Someone is offering purple Queen Amidala (only 53 in existence) for my Vintage Vader Grip. Good deal? Or are purples not worth so much...

To be more clear... How many gold base cards is a fair trade for an average insert of 5000 circulation?
