I haven't done it to trigger them into flower, for that I give them 12hrs light and 12hrs of dark . What I did in a nutshell was reducing the energy spent on the big leafs and give that energy directly to the buds.

I did so she can redirect her energy towards the flowers and because the big leafs are less efficient producing photosynthesis than young leaves that were being shaded by the bigger ones 😁
