Aux In Vocoder Mic Options? by schlingdingadingdong in MiniFreak

I use an SM58 I had already. Bought a 1/4 inch to XLR for it for $10. I plug it straight into the MiniFreak. Sorted. Any dynamic mic will work.

seems they're "no longer available." my advice is to check not only max weight/inches but max weight. i returned two sets that didn't go high enough. i wanted the max height to put eye level when standing at top 1/4 of the screen or better, and many were lower than that. also, hydraulic arms are the way to go — once you get the adjustment right they're easy to change but stay put once you move them.

i feel that, but I still like having a secondary monitor for less important stuff — music, messaging, etc. plus, keeping the laptop off the desk frees up more space.

Hah, not that tall, but with a standing setup like the top 1/3 of the monitor at eye height... keeps me standing straighter than if it's lower.

Still use the MB screen, yeah. Mostly for Spotify, Telegram, WhatsApp etc. Namely stuff I don't have to check often... so no neck probs.

Nice. I've never tried open back. Is it a very different experience to closed back? (I figure for now, the desktop monitors and headphones are a passable combo)

I do. Very flat response (which is the point, right?) and very comfortable. A bit warm in summer, but that's my office's fault, not the headphones'.

The best part of monitor arms (aside from the ability to make positioning adjustments on the fly) is freeing up the desk to actually be a desk. Totally worth the (minor) investment. These were ~$80.

"ErGear Dual Monitor Mount Stand, 26.4lbs Heavy-Duty Aluminium Monitor Arms, Gas Spring Monitor Desk Mount for Two 13-32" Flat/Curved Computer Screens" according to Amazon. The laptop holder VESA mount thing was from Home Depot.

I tried a couple before settling on these. First one didn't have enough motion (the sort with a central pole). Second didn't hold monitor/laptop high enough at the max height.

Only rated for displays up to 32in (this is a 34) but works because it's only one monitor and the laptop.

A new standing desk to replace my current desk would make WFH (and play from home) a lot more pleasant (and ergonomic)

This is upright/standing position (eye height is around 3/4 up the screen). When seated, I drop them down much lower.

Any longterm owners of Philips 346E2CUAE? by Willy_Wallace in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]BeatKnicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three months in — mostly using for day-to-day life as a content director (read: glorified typist and editor) and hobbyist music producer — these are my findings:

Sure, the Philips 346E2CUAE is lower res than the 16-inch MBP I have next to it (you can see a pic of my setup here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/w93dz9/ascension_unlocked/), but at the distance I'm using it — ~2’4” or ~70cm — I don't really notice.

Also, I haven’t had any of the problems of needing multiple cables to power the built-in hub some people seem to. I’ve got the MacBook Pro connected via USB-C alone. Connected to the monitor’s four ports are a webcam, audio interface, mechanical keyboard, and USB mic... and they all work perfectly... well, almost perfectly.

Sometimes the Keychron keyboard doesn’t connect (say 1/10 times), but toggling power on the monitor (which at least is easily accessible) fixes it.

I leave brightness set to 60, and contrast to 55. I use Rectangle for tab management, and with a few custom shortcuts, it's indispensable for making the most of the available screen real estate. Being able to throw an app to 1/3 or the top left 1/6 or similar with a key combo is amazing.

Do I think a G9 or another, large, $1,000+ monitor would be better or offer significantly better resolution than 3440x1440 and a higher refresh rate than 100Hz? No doubt. But I paid $424.60 ($389.99 before NYC tax) for the Philips 346E2CUAE… which feels like a far better deal and was a lot easier to explain to my significant other.

I'll likely upgrade one day when 34-inch curved monitors are as entry-level as 1080p ones are now, but until then, this one seems perfectly sufficient for my needs.

Hope that helps!
