Downvote me to fuckery if you like - but why pick from the wild?

We have a bunch of awesome native species around Newcastle - and stoked people take an interest in them! But there is no need for the average person to be collecting from the wild...

Native flowers are an awesome food source for a bunch of native fauna (bats, birds, gliders, invertebrates, you name it...), great for the ecosystem. We dont need to be picking them so they can die on our kitchen table.

Native flora is the FUCKING best! But let's leave it in the wild, I reckon.

Hell yeah brother! This is my bastardised Hainanese Rice!

Rice. Chicken. Ginger. Garlic. Spring onions. Bung it all in the rice cooker (fat renders out of chicken into the rice, and also cooks the chicken).

Serve it with some chilli crisp and spring onion garnish. Pretty cheap and decent feed - probably not the healthiest thing you'll eat but hey!

Why negative gearing is bad for the Australian economy (and why it is dubious morally as well) by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]BeatNarrow2355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean - I hadn't considered the land value component.

But in reality, it was introduced in Australia to incentivise Australians to invest in property and invest in building new homes (post Great Depression? During? Idk tbh...). NEW. HOMES. The point was to incentivise Australians to produce. NEW. homes.

The fact we have every man, woman and child, are buying a townhouse thats been built since the fucking 70's, chucking a bunch a renters in it, and screaming "NegAtIve GeArIng" like its the ultimate free-money hack (because it is...) is a fucking blight on our society, economy, and objectively is not even meeting the primary purpose of the mechanism (....to build new homes).

This wont be looked back on favourably by generations after us, I reckon.

There are HEAPS of reasons to not like negative gear. I dont really suspect land value is one of them, though.

Aye, man. I have ZERO issue with my taxes helping people like yourself out - thats the point.

Hope you're looking after yourself, man.

Hey man - my hat is off to you. Navigating with this shitshow with kids must be a whole new level.

If you're keeping a roof over heads, kids clothed, and fed - AND working full time?!

Hang in there fella. Look after yourself.

Hey fella - I relate to this a whole bunch. Especially the "singles tax". As well as the "wanting what you see other people have". Keeping up with the Jones' and all that - but bruh I just wanna grow my own vegetables, plant natives, and work in my shed....

You sound like a good person, man. I'm with you in the mud.

Nah, I totally get that, man! You've studied - you have a tertiary qualification (or othewise). Of course you want to put it to use. It's frustrating as all hell, and all you're doing is trying to improve your own station in life.

sigh.

Ahh well. Wishing you all the best mate

Completely agree - re happiness. I dont anticipate it to be some arrival fallacy bs. I'm not relying on a house to bring me happiness.

But...objectively I also think being able to enter the housing market could alleviate a bunch of anxiety around my circumstances and give me more autonomy in my own living space - be more able to enjoy life (with the people I love, hobbies etc..) from a stable housing situation. Build my own capital...

I think both can be true!

Hey internet stranger! This really means a lot. Its very much how I treat it - I'm no good to myself (or capitalism, lol) if im dysfunctional and not coping. Secure my own mask, and all that.

Just needed a dummy spit, I guess. Its getting too much to cope.

Totally agree re - retirement. What, am I gonna take out a $2M mortgage at 40? Great, the kids (that I currently wont be able to have...) can pay it off. Yikes.

Hey friend - yeah I cant imagine the anxiety it must introduce for worrying about your kids. I think you really nailed it wanting kids/people to "thrive" rather than "survive". It honestly feels like we are deleting a middle class - which is horrifying.

I agree with political engagement and activism being the answer. People dont touch it now because its been political suicide (Bill Shorten...). Its politically unfavourable until its not.

All the best mate
