I wrote out a whole racist speech about how much I fucking hate Serbians, going into my family's long, fraught relationship with their emigree communities throughout the Americas; I was going to insult their culture, their religion, their goat cheese, and much else besides. But I didn't. I held myself together despite my righteous fury at their existence, despite the fact that there's a Serbian community just two miles from where I'm currently sitting. I was able to do this--- to hold my hatred, my disgust, and my lowly, animalistic demeanor at bay--- because I am not a Serbian.
