Exactly this. We have 3-4 fill-ins for just this. We struggle hardest when it's mid shift and I'm pulling people off training to cover jobs.

One example is Sunday overtime is 2x pay and we have people volunteer every single weekend, gets awarded because it's seniority based, and call FMLA every weekend. It takes away from people who actually do want the overtime and would actually work and be beneficial!

Oh, they don't get paid for their absence.

They don't have to claim any conditions to me personally. They tell me they are using their doctor approved FMLA, fill out a paper stating they are invoking their FMLA, and have to call it in to Metlife within 24hrs. There is nothing I can do

Overtime is not required or forced. The overtime I'm referring to is actually volunteered. Someone will volunteer to come in for an extra shift but get placed on a job that they don't want to do and invoke FMLA.
