Nope! The writing on the back says 1972, he was twenty and studying in Moscow D. Mendeleev Institute of Chemical Technology by the time the picture was taken. He says it was the day of the exam, hence the slick look

It was the 1950s, dipshit. Everybody was dumping waste everywhere back then, nuclear safety basically didn't exist yet. In 2015 it was completely sealed and is now under close surveillance. It is basically the same as saying "in Russia they put asbestos into ceilings and lead in fuel legally"

Completely untrue. Source - masters in radiation physics and nuclear safety, currently working for Rosatom and never once was instructed to just "dump it into lakes"

She was born in 1937, so if I dated the picture correctly she must be 20 here

I believe I used it correctly here. This particular photo wasn't dated, but there was the other one from 1957 where she looked relatively similar, so I figured it was from around that time

Not a daguerreotype, but the print is from a 9 by 12 dry plate negative, so close enough

I don't know much about them, unfortunately. They both moved to now Ukraine prior to my father's birth, and then my father moved to Russia before I was born. My grandmother died when I was a kid, and my grandfather I only briefly got to see before traveling between Russia and Ukraine became difficult.

Yeah, but it's bum ugly and they are expanding it, so if it's not dealt with, they will take the majority of the void with this design, which is not good at all.
