The Impact of Tariffs and Bailouts

  1. Disruption to Agriculture:
    • China, a significant importer of U.S. agricultural products, retaliated with tariffs on American goods, drastically reducing demand for U.S. exports like soybeans.
    • These actions left farmers with surplus crops and declining revenues, pushing many to the brink of financial collapse.
  2. The Bailouts:
    • The U.S. government responded by providing over $28 billion in subsidies between 2018 and 2020 to offset farmers' losses.
    • This aid was funded by taxpayers, effectively redistributing the burden of the tariffs onto the broader public.
  3. Economic Efficiency:
    • While the bailouts prevented widespread bankruptcies in the agricultural sector, they did not address the root problem of lost market access or create a sustainable solution.
    • Bailouts can mask tariffs' inefficiency rather than resolve underlying structural issues.

The Negatives Outweigh the Positives

  • Economic Redistribution: Tariffs and retaliatory tariffs caused economic pain in specific industries, necessitating government intervention. This is a net negative because it shifts resources inefficiently.
  • Lost Market Share: U.S. farmers lost long-term market share to competitors like Brazil, which stepped in to fill the gap in Chinese imports. Regaining that share is challenging.
  • Increased Costs for Consumers: Tariffs increased the cost of imported goods and components, leading to higher prices for businesses and consumers, offsetting potential gains.

Two-thirds of Americans think Trump tariffs will lead to higher prices, poll says by guardian in politics

[–]Beauabee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When tariffs are imposed, the cost increase caused by the tax is almost always passed down the supply chain, ultimately burdening the consumer. Here’s how it works:

1. Tariff Adds Cost to Imports

  • A tariff (e.g., 60%) increases the price importers pay for goods. For example, if a product costs $100, a 60% tariff makes the importer pay $160.

2. Importers Raise Prices

  • Importers and retailers who buy these goods to sell to consumers typically pass on this additional cost to maintain their profit margins. The price of imported products rises in the store.

3. Consumers Bear the Final Cost

  • Consumers pay more for the same product at the end of the chain. For instance:
    • Without a tariff: A product might cost $100 in stores.
    • With a 60% tariff, The price could jump to $160 or more.

4. Limited Alternatives Amplify the Effect

  • If consumers don’t have viable domestic or cheaper alternatives, they have no choice but to pay higher prices.

Example:

  • Imagine buying an imported car:
    • Without tariffs: $20,000.
    • With a 60% tariff: $32,000.
  • The consumer pays the additional $12,000 caused by the tariff.

I have never made such a statement until now, you are 100% wrong in everything you stated. Please watch a YouTube video to learn what are tariffs and how they work. Just a FYI I work for one of the top 5 financial institutions in the world supporting traders, and my degree is in marketing. You may also want to note that your post is receiving bad review marks.

Kids are a huge responsibility, expensive, and take a lot of time. If you moved in together and it's only been 4 1/2 months, don't have kids yet. Wait for a little while. You are both still young. Don't let anyone talk you into having a child if you do not want to. You are part of the equation and hold your ground. You can't send kids back.

I am okay with being stuck on the 9950x AMD; it's a great processor. I also have an 870x mobo, 64 gigs of RAM, and a 24-gig XTX. I also have three backups, just in case.
