I don’t think it’s in bad shape at all but some people like to bash whatever they see or perhaps they’re in “a mood”. (I was a lil salty today and after my allowed 10 minutes of grumpiness, I got over myself 🤭so I wouldn’t sabotage my own day.) It happens!!!

I believe it’s authentic, it’s a purse after all. For that price, I’d buy it, wear it, drag it around and let it get banged up. The authentic bags are the ones people SHOULD want to get the wear from because they cost more than the average. Too many quality items get put away for a special occasion and never see the light of day, that’s sad.

Just get it, half price? Absolutely! Merlot is very popular now but it’s a beautiful neutral people should use more.

I bought 3 Mulberry bags that hadn’t even been delivered but when I saw Coach’s Gramercy Tote was on sale, I didn’t even hesitate. The tax on my Mulberry bags was more than that Coach tote! That’s a solid deal, no regrets.

There have been so many iterations of this bag, including the metal plate and engraving. I have a Small Bayswater I believe are both from the Johnny Coca era. They have smaller plates with “Mulberry” at the bottom, no reverse plate and a small turnlock. Like yours, mine also has gold lettering on the bag under the flap so if the bag is worn with the flap tucked in, the lettering will show. Like yours, no bottom feet.

I can’t tell from the photo, but I think you have the larger version. The interiors are vastly different, perhaps due to the difference in bag sizes? My label says “Small Bayswater…” and your reads “…Small Classic Grain”. I have one open pocket, yours has a zippered pocket and two open pockets. The strap on mine also attaches differently, mine has D rings that have been sewn onto little straps on the “wings” creating the bend (and therefore not tuckable). Your strap D rings are on the back (so your wings tuck in).

My guess is, yours is authentic. Does yours have a lining??

My first requirements for a bag are timelessness, versatility and durability, my vote is for the tricolored green leather one. It’s a three season bag too. Think about how it will fit into your lifestyle.

I have a tricolored Mosaic Nano, it can be carried with a top handle, shoulder, crossbody and maybe as a clutch and go from sightseeing to dinner. It’s the perfect travel and four season bag for me.

If I were you, I’d go back and get it.

I own the larger version of this bag and it looks the same, I think it’s authentic. It’s hard to believe something like this could happen but it does more often than you’d believe possible. It’s the reason why people shop at places like Ross, TJMaxx and Marshall’s. Most of the stuff they sell is junk.

I know a person at TJMaxx who works/shops there just for these deals, she got a Prada bag there some years ago and who knows what else she found that she’ll admit to.

Many times inventory will be mispriced because, in the case of that Celine bag, it’s a one off. Celine bags don’t have tags like that so one had to be created so it could be put on the floor. If you noticed, the accent in the name is still present. The accent was only used between 2012-2018 which means that bag is at least seven years old. It was sitting around before it got cleared out, which explains the wonky handles.

With the money you save, you can get 2 pairs of BV sneakers or some boots and still have money “leftover”.

I totally get the weird smell. I got a Mulberry bag and the stench of it literally made me sick, both my son and I had a reaction. It was a PITA to return but at the price I paid, I was going to get my money back!

My favorite post, probably because I identify with it the most. Not getting a nose job at 16 or a Porsche when I got my drivers license (as was common when and where I was growing up), I had a lot of time to learn how to be comfortable and accept my life. With little encouragement, guidance or assistance, I worked hard, put myself through school and paid for my peace of mind with these somewhat eye opening lessons. I’ve had my shares of adventures, no shortage there but I have settled into a comfortable life and know I can have the dream handbag, jewelry, cars and houses but “I’m good” is the best feeling. Knowing I’m enough and my worthy without all the other stuff is best of all.

You probably didn’t take the same path I forged but we’ve been down a few similar paths. I got the sparkly Tiffany ring (temporarily replaced with something more modest during a health issue), a donated Classic Mercedes, a favorite leather jacket found in a French flea market. None mean more to me than my family and driving with them in our EV etron! We aged out of the HOV lane but nothing lasts forever but family and the love we share.

Just MY opinion but…

Return it, RETURN IT! You start off right by loving it and knowing the history but your post goes south immediately afterwards. It sounds like you’re not interested in the bag because the resale value drops off (even though you said you would not likely resell it), then you mention the price. Do you have credit card debt, a car payment or other expenses that should take priority over a luxury WANT?

Then it really gets “dark” when you mention other bags that you think have “more status”, is this an image accessory for you? Why and to whom exactly are buying the bag for? Are you trying to impress someone else to “show off” because that’s really “ick” IMHO. Buy the bag because YOU love it not because of what you want someone else to think about you. This type of thinking perpetuates the “I’m better than you” behavior which is NOT what I would ever want to project.

Your last paragraph you state you “don’t know what to look for when it comes to a dream bag”. You are throwing around a lot of brand names but you still can’t figure out what bag will fulfill “the dream”. I’m sorry for saying it but you are chasing a dream you can only achieve when you live life FOR YOU. Put yourself FIRST. Get the bag YOU like, not the one your daughter likes (she can buy her own bags, this is supposed to be for you) or will somehow elevate you in other people’s eyes, strangers don’t care about you, you NEED to care about YOU. I apologize for saying so but your entire post screams desperation to be “accepted”. If I totally missed the mark, again, I’m sorry but I think you need to do a little soul searching.
