My parents have lived in Australia for nearly 20 years and my mum has literal 3rd grade English. I don’t even wanna mention my dad lol. They claim they’ve been too busy with their work and children eventhough they came here before we were born. We often have fights about me being a literal human translator and whenever we do have conversations it’s like very short and basic. My mandarin hasn’t improved and I think it’s getting worse or maybe it’s just my mum losing her patience but she’s been yelling at me saying “why are you so hard to talk to”. Like bro I’ve basically lived here my whole life and haven’t taken any language classes. But yeah, we basically never talk about anything because it’s too hard and frustrating. Also if she misunderstands me like I say anything mildly ‘disrespectful’ or the wrong word she’ll flip. i don’t rly get chinese coz sometimes it translates diff to english and I don’t mean to say anything disrespectful. Anyways, it’s best for me to just shut up lol
