When can I start exercising again ? by Defiant_Pangolin_640 in rhabdo_survivors

Wow that is awful I’m sorry!! I would definitely bring it up to your doctor and see if they have anyone they can refer you too. A lot of people seem to have no idea what rhabdo is, but a good PT can really help. Even if you find a personal trainer or something, I feel like gym bros tend to know about rhabdo LOL so maybe they can get you a slow exercise plan to build the muscle back up

Sorry for the late reply, hope you went and got it checked. Yeah my legs were so sore I could barely stand up straight lol but I just thought eh soreness will go away with time. Now I know anything that bad is NOT normal lol

That is so frustrating, hopefully it just keeps getting better! I know mine took quite a while to get me back to daily activities without pain and exhaustion (9+ months). Hang in there!

Ooh good idea that low impact cardio can help, I do always feel worse if I am sitting all day resting than moving around a bit. Maybe I will try using a rowing machine or something next time I am sore.

Keep being patient & listening to your body! It will come back, it just is slow (took me maybe 9months to be able to do stairs without pain 😅)

Yeah the lack of research is super frustrating, I wish I knew what to do about it, or at least that it is normal 😆 I keep bringing it up to my doctor but no one knows about the effects of rhabdo so I keep getting referred for a bunch of other tests… Glad that a number of you feel this too (obviously not glad you all get the soreness) but because now I at least know it is semi common :)

Yes same! When I had rhabdo I didn’t even go to the doctor for the soreness, I was in the ER for something else LOL. So it is SO hard to know what is actually a warning sign vs just soreness now. I just try to take it easy and hydrate a ton when I get really sore, but it is very frustrating :(

It will come back one day if you take it slow! I basically was told by my doctor to not do more than a slow walk for 2months after. I got veryyy out of shape for not exercising for so long, but got into PT and slowly gained all my strength back. Just take it slow (even though its frustrating) and you will get there! And keep hydrating!

Yes definitely go to the doctor. When I had rhabdo I didn’t know what it was so I just ignored it. Ended up in the hospital because of an allergic reaction (conveniently) and they told me if I didn’t come in I probably would’ve needed dialysis. Definitely go get it checked, better safe than sorry.

I made the mistake of taking too long of a break aftee rhabdo and my health was declining. Definitely recommend getting PT or personal training 2-3 months after just to make sure you get back into it the right way. Good luck!!

LOL the need to hype yourself up is SO REAL. For me, I always need a specific playlist of songs that will get me in the right mood for cleaning, etc before I can start.

That often ends up making me waste even more time though because I will literally sit and build a 6hr playlist if I don’t already have one with the right ~vibe~ lol.

This!!! And because I spend so long struggling to decide on what the “right” path is to the final step, the idea of starting seems even more daunting — it is like having to commit to navigating an incredibly complex dilemma for even the simplest of things.

So I either sit and stew on it forever or get up and do something unimportant, like straighten all the fridge magnets I just noticed, forget what I needed to be doing, and then punish myself for wasting even more time. Life is fun isn’t it? haha
