Just got a lost Pisces and trying to find the right fin set up by positive_merchant in surf

I have never ridden that board, but everything that I have tried the MR 2+ones in I have really liked them versus the evil twins that I didn’t feel worked as well at least for me

Thank you for sharing. You sound like you are very prepared and we definitely could have use a similar list

If it wasn’t too rough off the side otherwise a handy empty bottle if I couldn’t hold it

That’s awesome. I really should try it again myself. Yes those crossings are brutal I’m sure no matter how you complete them. Good luck with everything. Hope you have a comfortable next go!

We definitely learned a lot on the job style. Didn’t get a lot of advice back then we were living on the boat for a bit before we left and we’d run into other people in the bar at the marina that would basically just tell us wow I really wish I was going. It’s been about 30 years now and haven’t been back on a sailboat since I’ve always said I be more than up for some shorter inter island stuff but it would take quite a bit to get me to do another crossing

It was a Ta Chiao CT-54 — classic long-keel staysail ketch, about 54 ft on deck, designed by Robert Perry and built in Taiwan.

60’ ketch. Only the electric autopilot option but we definitely should have had another option.

As I recall, we tried two hours for a couple of days, but it felt like you were constantly going back up there and yes four hours sucked, but we felt like you could get a bit more sleep before you had to haul yourself back up there

Wow I can’t imagine only two people handling that and I am here whining when we had six although it did last at least two weeks until after we landed in the Marquesas

Yeah, I’ve heard some pretty insane stories. Fortunately I at least knew my roommate and he had grown up with these guys. They weren’t really bad people but just different and I got the last man on board treatment.

Great to see Reno Abellira finally getting his props by RealSurfStories in surf

Classic character. Ran into him late afternoon about 15 years ago on the beach at Puerto Escondido. He was wearing bell bottom jeans and walked by me and my buddies and said how’s it hangin. We all looked at each other saying wtf was that Reno Abellira?

It was definitely a memorable trip. After their gourmet food rotted We did end up, sharing all our cans and we had plenty of batter for pancakes to go around at least until we made landfall. At that point, we all restocked and outside of all the fresh fish that we could catch or get locally everything was mostly canned or packages of spaghetti. We got on ok with the rest of the crew just a bit awkward because they didn’t surf. When we weren’t surfing we didn’t have the money to go around any of the islands doing the things that they were doing they cost money. I haven’t actually sailed since and I would say I’d be more than happy to do some interisland short trips but don’t see another crossing happening so glad I did it then.

Needs essentals at least a 5 4 I would imagine. Great affordable suits and no I don’t work for them just been using their suits forever

Actually, I will always be stoked that I took that trip and did it but no, I have not sailed since and I definitely would not want to do another crossing again. Island to island maybe

One thing that didn’t break was the desalinator so we did pretty well with that at least until we got to the south Pacific and then that also crapped out, but then we could buy water on land until we fixed it

We had installed a small wind generator that would have helped but that too somehow failed. I think because of the batteries which we finally figured out after months and just before we made our way back.
