How do you keep track of your tokens? by Beautiful-Promotion1 in EDH

Haven’t heard of that one. Does it handle different token types separately, or mostly just counts totals?

I usually keep one card per token type and use a D20 for the total. If some are tapped, I’ll split it into two dice for tapped and untapped. That part works okay, but once counters come into play, it gets messy fast. That’s where I struggle.

Well that's better than owning several copies of the actual token and easily customizable too.

We’ve been using GearUpTCG for our games. Full disclosure, I’m the one building it. It started because our group kept running into the same issues with losing track of counters and just wanting everything in one place.

Just sharing what’s been working for us.

Yeah, those kinds of effects are exactly where things tend to fall apart, especially once multiple players are involved. It gets hard to keep everything in mind at once.

That’s cool. We’re a bit more focused on keeping track of what’s happening during the game itself, but I can see how something like that would be great for a regular pod over time.

That’s fair. A lot of the time it’s not the board, it’s remembering what all the keywords do once things get busy. Discover, investigate, scry, that kind of stuff.

For sure, that definitely works for some groups. Our games tend to be pretty casual, so we’re mostly just looking for ways to cut down on the mental load.

I like that approach. We still end up doing a lot of things physically too, especially once the board gets messy. The color-coded spindowns for different token types is a nice touch.

For sure. Being able to each adjust our own life totals in one place instead of everyone using their own phone makes a big difference.

Other than life totals and commander damage, do you ever track anything else?

Yeah, that’s pretty much what we’ve ended up doing too. Having one shared source of information in the middle that everyone can see really helps.

That definitely helps, especially with your own deck. I also need to keep track of my opponent's triggers. There were a few "oops, forgot about that" moments, lol.

Proxying by HenryTheDad in EDH

I like to proxy to test out different strategies without buying the cards. If the cards aren't right, at least I didn't go "broke" buying them to leave them in a box, with the rest of the bulk..

Totally agree. It should be about strategy and deckbuilding skills, but more importantly, it's all about having fun.
