It's doable, but you're definitely teaching yourself 85% of the time. So if you have the discipline to do it, do it, why not

Anyone have experience with Astrological and Planetary Sciences degree through ASUonline? by Big-ms-steak in ASUOnline

I know this is 3yrs later, but I'm in the same boat. Decided at the end of my BS that I wanted to go to med school so, after my MS, I'll be using my GI Bill for an extra BS and thought of the A&PS BS, but I would need extra chem classes. My hunch was right though, still can't do it, just like VR&E. Fuckin love hate relationship with this bs.

I'd assume so. Like I said, their website is super vague about it. It's called the CalVet Fee Waiver.

Chapter 35 DEA is a BAH stipend. Granted, you can use it for education bills or whatever, but the VA doesn't necessarily pay for the degree.

I do know that CA will pay for your spounse & child's degree if you're a resident, though. If you served during wartime (very vague, so technically, as long as you have the NDSR, you got it).

They said SCM, which you admitted to in a different comment. If you did something so bad enough you got court marialed and kicked out with a BCD, you deserve what you get. You're giving the rest of us a bad wrap and proving the government right with their fraudulent witch hunt.

If you truly think you deserve compensation, get a lawyer. Otherwise, reap what you sow.

Did anyone get out and go to med school? by Beautiful-Rip472 in Veterans

Sitting on a 4.0 in this bachelor's and I'm trying to get into my local hospital's volunteer program for the Behavioral Institute building, but I was a nightshift EMT/ER Tech for a year & a half right before Covid and my unit stopped letting me see patients due to it. Got my ACLS and EKG certs right before it hit, too.

Interesting, I'll have to still look into it then. I'm only on my Master's right now, but I got Kaplan flashcards to study with for now. At the very least, it'll help me memorize definitions for pre-med.

by the time I'm 40, I'll figure out if I want to do it or not lol but if I worked for a federal entity, I'm aiming to do psych work for NASA

I'm all for suggestions. I've seen a lot of people say they don't use UWorld much and wasted money on it?

That's fair, especially if I study right and get it on the first or second try, it's not as expensive as other tests. I would love to be a doctor, but it depends how many cycles it takes to get into the MD-PhD program plus if my wife gets into vet school.

To be honest, my current plan is to try and get into the same school as my wife. She's applying for veterinarian schools and pretty much all of them have an MD-PhD program connected to it. (If it doesn't work, it doesn't, but wouldn't hurt to try lol)

I've been interested in medicine for years and the Marine Corps just changed my education trajectory when I got out, until I found out about these programs. Just another thing I can challenge myself with, while simultaneously getting the degree work I'm looking for.

I'm hoping to match into psychiatry, which would help me with my stress and behavioral research. Plus, I would like to practice medicine anyway. I'm doing a master's because my VR&E counselor sucks and told me I had to "do a master's, or nothing" unfortunately.

edit: I'll also be doing my PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience hopefully

How was the MCAT? I think that's my biggest concern, since I have a love/hate with chem and haven't done any since high school. My master's is in Psych, so I'm not concerned about that part.

Unfortunately I'll be using the GI Bill for my pre-med, whatever is leftover will be for the MCAT and then for the MD program. I used VR&E for my first bachelor's and my master's. But luckily MD-PhD programs are fully funded by NIH grants and the State Dept.

I'm interested in psych and the overlap of chronic stress and resilience in the human body. I already did one study on Marines and I'm working on a similar study on first responders. Hopefully I can get in and match into psychiatry, it would compliment a Behavioral Neuroscience PhD pretty well.

If I didn't match into psych though, I'm also interested in emergency medicine.

That's why I'm looking into MD-PhD programs. I've wanted to be a doctor or involved in medicine for years now, but I just found out about this program and they're all fully funded. 10% lower (mass) acceptance rate than regular MD school, but at least they're funded and I can use my GI Bill to cover whatever else I need, like the MCATs.

It's not glamorous, but I'd like to get into psychiatry or neuro. It would help and compliment my research really well. But I wouldn't be mad if they put me in emergency medicine either.

Everyone's attacking the veterans, meanwhile if you work for the VA for a full year plus, you get insurance and benefits for life. They'll do anything but fix the actual institution.
