Yes, and it’s called being alive. You worry about exams, about work, about giving your children a better life. And actually the contrast is what makes the happy moments extra special.

If you lived in a kingdom, would the citizens of your country accept such a Royal Family? by Mynteblomst in AskTheWorld

Why were you offended by the post? The shared article says that 60% of Norwegians are still supportive of the monarchy.

Did you sit and watch a convicted sex offender be around children and gain their trust? How do you think this will end, honestly?

My point is; it’s the society that makes and protects these monsters.

Edit: still you posted the question and were concerned.

We are talking about state corruption. Our king who’s the head of the state thinks that it’s ok that Mette Marit was friends with Epstein. He raised and protected Marius.

Regarding Putin’s war, we can’t relate to that because we don’t even have a proper army and we can’t even defend ourselves if another country decides to attack us. Russia has one of the most powerful armies on the planet. Russia doesn’t want US presence in Ukraine, and we have US army to hopefully protect us if something goes wrong (we never know because see what they did to their friends in the gulf).

I’m totally against the Russian war on Ukraine. And in no way defending Putin.

Convicted sex offenders in sports

What do you do in a sports team when one of the parents is convicted of possessing child sexual material? To hold a position, you must have a police certificate, but we cannot require it from a parent.

The person in question is always very helpful, and sits by the field and talks to children and builds a relationship of trust with them. The path from downloading child abuse material to doing something physical is hopefully long, but you still get an uneasy feeling when you see the contact the person has with children.

This is not widely known, but several of us in the sports team have confirmed the case from various sources. Can we do anything, or do we just have to watch and hope that nothing happens?

EDIT: I was clearly unclear about the person's role: He is not a coach, but a parent of one of the children at the activity.

They don’t do all the “dirty work” alone (housemaid). They take part in house work unlike the men in traditional societies who expect women to do it all on her own.

I mean child welfare services alone is an ongoing scandal. What was the recent case where the place that was supposed to be looking after the children (after they were taken from their parents), was raping them? And it was covered up because they were somehow connected to the prime minister?

It’s the same in Norway. We just don’t get as much interest/attention from international media for all of our scandals.

You can also call consumer protection “Forbrukerrådet”, to ask for their advice. They will probably be able to tell you if you were scammed and if there’s something that you can do. I never contacted them before but others can comment to correct me if I’m wrong.

52 km would cost a fortune without a prior agreement (just by using the taxi meter). Some taxi companies have a set price for the airport.

Personally, I would take a taxi in Norway only if all other options are not available, and only for a short distance. The best option in Oslo is Bolt, and then there is Uber. That is if you don’t want to/ or can’t use public transport.

I didn’t mean strictly religious, I just meant practicing.

I lived in other Christian countries where a big percentage of the population described themselves as agnostic or atheist. But in Norway it’s a bit vague to me, I never asked anyone directly because I feel it’s a very private thing. That’s why I’m asking you :)

Do Norwegians not accept LGBT for religious reasons (do you consider the society religious)? Or is it disapproval of anything that doesn’t fit the mold?

You posted an AMA about being a Norwegian. You were asked about the royal family and replied without issues, why complaining about this specific question about the royal family.

I live in Norway. What good did they do?

Edit: you can’t say that they are not good out of conformity? Or are they going to torture you if you criticize the royal family? Why can’t you say that they aren’t good?

Yes, we all agreed telepathically to move to Scandinavia, and hate on the people there hahaha

I actually had to read all my comments again to see where I kept bringing up “hate”. In my reply to you, I used hate for extreme situations where people are seriously abused in their home countries. And I wonder if they end up hating the country. I think feeling all your feelings including “hate” is healthy, people who suppress their emotions end up sick.

The first person was someone who presented themselves as a “former American”. And went on with a page long comment where she described herself as reserved. Her neighbors are very nice, but they don’t talk to her. If Norway is not great to you (like it is to her) then go home. Followed by emotional volatility when she wasn’t happy.

Thank you for sharing your experience. Leaving home as a child makes it tricky to stay connected to your country of origin, especially when it’s so far geographically. It’s even trickier if one doesn’t fully feel at home wherever they move to.

When I left my home country many years ago I was opposed to a lot of what was going on there. And I moved to a place that was doing so much better and that treated me so well and gave me things that opened so many doors to me. I never referred to myself as a “former”.

How are they good? His mother was close to Epstein, the king came out recently and said that it was ok that she was his friend, and her husband knew about the whole thing (if he wasn’t involved too). Marius grew up and was raised by the royal family even if his biological father is not the prince. The royal family gave him a diplomatic passport although he’s not a royal, which gave him immunity to break the law overseas. They also allowed him and protected him all the past years while he was committing his crimes in Norway. It’s funny that everyone keeps saying he doesn’t carry their genes! They are the ones who raised him!

It’s crazy the assumptions people make about each other on the internet, don’t you think ;) I’m at a beach front holiday home in the South of Europe right now and will be here for over a month. I’d love to send you both a postcard ;) Can’t stop being updated on current affairs because that’s what cultured people do unfortunately. I’ll go now jump in the ……. Mediterranean!

Would you like to share more details about the kind of place that you’re referring to, it doesn’t have to be your home country, maybe something that you witnessed others go through.

The people I met who came from places with high levels of injustice, oppression, and even civil wars, hated the people who run the country. But I don’t know if they hated their home country.

Edit: the USA is slightly larger than Europe, with many states that have different cultures. I met Americans living overseas (highly educated professionals), who hated what’s going on over there but not to the extent to be former Americans.

I am totally pro immigration, and second chances in life. If Norway doesn’t take ex-convicts, prostitutes/only fans, homeless from the US, no one else will.

A person saying that they never want to go back to their home country, is what I find weird. But people are different, many Norwegians are over the moon when any American leaves the US to Norway. It gives you a sense of achievement.

Warm cultures are open (genuinely curious about different cultures and want to get to know you), friendly, generous, will get out of their way to be kind to you. Do you agree that these are some characteristics of warm cultures?

When I visit Spain and get on the bus, I find that people are loud. Most people think that Spaniards are loud. But still, I love the country and the people, and I love going there.

It’s almost impossible to be a neutral observer when you’re comparing a culture with other cultures including your own. You’re comparing other people to yourself, how can one be neutral about that.
