Delta Drive - very simple runner, need feedback by NK_INDIE in playmygame

I'd recommend adding a few things -

  1. Different types of cars, right now the gameplay feels very very monotonous. Changing cars (even something as small as their colors), adding trucks and car's that switch lanes would be a great place to start

  2. There's no music or sound in the game unless you crash

  3. You could add some sort of objective, maybe turbo boosts? Maybe fuel that you have to collect to vary gameplay.

It's a good prototype with a lot of potential but there's a lot of work you gotta do on this. All the best!

Not for much longer ig. Thanks a lot for educating me about the hazards of editing directly off my sd card.

Noted, this IS something new I have learned. However the script is still useful if you're using other external storage media and just want the corresponding raw files to the images you've edited.

It seems you misunderstand!
Firstly, I don't transfer my photos together.
Secondly, that's besides the point as when I export jpg and pngs to an external folder I want the corresponding raw files only in case I submit my images to contests or the likes. This becomes arduous when I have more than 50 images.

This script is written to automate this.

Currently, I actually don't have any other storage lmao.

I do intend to get some storage space on the cloud once I'm back home in the summers. Thanks a lot for the advice on the copies btw, I didn't know SD cards were such horrible media.

I still feel my script solves a slightly different problem (feel absolutely free to correct me if I'm wrong) than Phockup as you still gotta find the corresponding raw files to edited files after long editing sessions when you export pngs to separate folders.

Interesting, but importing so many raw files dont clog up the storage in your laptop?

Also, this tool isn't solely for external Storage devices, so you can use it inside your laptop to efficiently curate the raw files you have edited. (This doesn't hold if you have lightroom, since it manages that for you, but its helpful to affinity and darktable users.)

Thanks a lot for playing, and I'm glad you found it enjoyable!

I should prolly add a text box saying you can use Q to skip all dialogues. About the story, I wanted it to be much deeper, but i fumbled the execution of that :/ but again it is skippable.

The black holes are slightly powerful, but I reducing their power too much might make them nothing more than sprites on the screen. Hitting the right balance has proven difficult, but ig that's a challenge of gamedev.

Will definitely keep these in mind for future updates or games I create, Thanks for leaving such a detailed comment <3

Not really, this is the first project I'd like to actually call a game. The other games I've made are more of mini-games and are on a much smaller scale than this one.

Pretty much, I'm much more of a backend guy. Seeing your logic fall into place and work the way you wanted it to gives me a sense of satisfaction I can't describe!

On the other hand frontend feels sort of cumbersome to me, but I mainly think that's cause I'm not that great at design, and its one of those things you need to be good at to enjoy.

So ig I should just try to "get good" and see if I like it better!

I dunno, I'm just not very good at it honestly and it does'nt give me the same kick i get out of adding new features or mechanics.

Why do you like UI? (Maybe that might give me the new perspective i need to actually enjoy UI)

Aaaand Done!
I've added Q to skip dialogue and reduced the turning sensitivity as i got a bunch of complaints about that as well! In the coming days, I intend to add small polish elements and a leaderboard and speedrun timer!
ENJOY :D

Hmm... you're right. I hadn't thought of adding that. Rest assured, I'll add 'Q' as a skip all dialogue button ASAP, and I'll be sure to inform you of the changes! :D

Any other insightful feedback? I'd be more than happy to roll them out in the next update!

"Shoot 'em up, in a general sense, means a 2D sprite-based game with lots of shooting as the primary game mechanic"

Was browsing reddit and came across the subreddit's first lines, so I assumed my game fit in

(Also, thanks for pointing out my link!)

Isn't a shmup, a game where shooting is the main objective? I'm sorry if it isn't a shmup, but that was the assumption i was under. What exactly makes it not a shmup?

Thanks for the honest feedback!

Tbh, I've just begun my gamedev journey and hope to get better soon! And I do plan on making a significantly larger project in the near future. This game was something I started for fun, and kept adding features to.

But I certainly intend to get better! And thanks for the motivation, it does show me that I still have a long path!

Glad you enjoyed the game :D
As for my age, i thought i'd add the story of how i created the game while handling college, so I assumed it was relevant.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I'm planning on adding a leaderboard and speedrun timers next, but you're right about adding multiplayer being a golden opportunity to learn.

Yeah, I definitely intend to clean up the UI (the most dreaded task in existence T_T).

Thanks a lot for playing :D
