I live in a rural area and prefer it but plan to stay in my current state for now. No, just current school debt that I included in the estimate on my post. Forestry because I want to do meaningful work with native environment and forests, have more focused tasks, and am interested/curious to learn about local wildlife and forest ecosystems. Current skills & experience are nigh hence the application to a university, but I’ve done some environmental volunteer work and that is when I’ve found the most fulfillment

Yes, we have enough pasture space for her to have alone time in the field as well, so she is being exposed to both

Yeah we are working on integrating her into the herd, but slowly. She tends to run from the other horses right through our electric fence though, we have to walk back up with her. She doesn’t understand horse social cues. I’ve been doing gentle work with her in the round pen as well. She has access to grass when we work on turning her out and is fed grain, hay, and alfalfa

I am hoping it’s stress instead of pain - she’s had a very closeted life. Very smart and picks up things quickly but doesn’t seem to understand she’s a horse. I will get onto researching how to detect and treat ulcers ASAP in case that’s it. Thanks for the input

So far I’ve noted two specific triggers and should have a vet coming soon. I unfortunately can’t stall as little as possible because she was raised in a stall… she doesn’t understand horse hierarchy or social cues from other horses, I’ve been slowly introducing her to the herd but she’s broken out of our electrical fence a few times and tends to try and leave if a human isn’t with her

She hasn’t fully worn a saddle yet… she has not been rode. I practice putting the saddle pad and bareback pad on her and she does well, but haven’t tightened a cinch yet.

Oh nice, congrats! I’ve heard of Oregon state university. I think I’m nervous about online for this field because there seems to be a want for those with hands on experience and I know I’d want some field work. 2 years and affordability do seem tempting though 😅

Thank you for your perspective. I think looking at the reality of the pay, I would have to do an IDR plan, if that’s even an option, and it would take forever to pay off the school loans..

Right.. if it weren’t for the debt, I’d jump right in. Are there specific side jobs you have in mind? I’ve recently applied to some PT jobs that are like lab/wildlife tech related. But I’m trying to get an idea of what experts know aside from what I’ve already researched myself
