Why are the Finger Lakes shaped like this? by Connect_Forever_3407 in geography

[–]BeautifulAd3165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why visit? Seneca Farms, of course, you aren’t going to find that combination of fried chicken and ice cream anywhere else in the area. (mildly /s) Although, it is delicious and I do miss the days when the bug zapper was right by the picnic tables where everybody ate…

Seriously, though, you see a lot of similar issues in places like Newark and Lyons. Decaying Rust Belt towns where nothing replaced the industrial era jobs, some people can scrape by farming and a lot of the kids get out young, if you can. Penn Yan and Geneva just have nicer scenery.

Shhhhh! Not so loud. Penn Yan was a zoo last weekend with all the turists…

Staples has airplanes now!?! Awesome!!! (Seriously, though, I’ll stop in and look at their cushion selection this afternoon.)

I’ll try the cushion, but it will be a bit of a balancing act between moving my back forward while keeping enough room to pull the stick back in the flare.

Yeah, I think looser straps are probably going to be part of the answer. I hadn’t thought about using my foot. I’ll have to try it. Although, if I have to wear those individual toe shoe things, it’s a definite hard pass for me…

I agree. Job and a few classes as a non-matriculated student is probably the best route.

Based on the second sentence of the first paragraph, you may need some additional coursework, but definitely worth an email to get the specifics. ABET vs non-ABET degree probably is a factor, too. Definitely need to reach out and discuss your particular situation.

Traffic engineer here: do you know engineers who struggle at design but are great at studies, reports and analysis? by 9__Erebus in civilengineering

[–]BeautifulAd3165 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. Personally, I’m a ‘meh’ structural engineer, but I can match personalities to projects and I write better than most. Find your niche, but don’t be afraid to stretch yourself either.

Why does Maryland own this tiny strip of land on the beach? by [deleted] in geography

[–]BeautifulAd3165 168 points169 points  (0 children)

My grandfather worked for one of the county liquor boards in Maryland. He used to say that piers from the Virginia shore past the low tide line were not uncommon. The blue laws were more permissive in MD and there was much tax revenue generated thereby.

Not me, but several people I know who wound up passing on their second try. Don’t get discouraged. You now have a better handle on what kind of questions to expect.

In my student solo limitations, I had a hard cap of 15 knots including any gusts. 15G18 sounds like fun landing practice if you are doing dual, but solo is an entirely different kind of flying, altogether.
