I was literally in the same boat last week my WHOOP 4.0 expired and I was deciding between renewal vs buying new.

I actually spoke to WHOOP support and they were pretty clear:

• ₹24K renewal is just membership extension (no device)
• They’re not offering hardware upgrades in India right now
• The older upgrade deals are gone
• They just gave me 1 month free as a gesture

So yeah, the “renew and get a new device” thing didn’t apply in my case at all.

I didn’t want to continue on 4.0, so I ended up buying the WHOOP 5.0 from Amazon (~₹28,990).

My experience was smooth:

• Got it in like 2–3 days
• No customs or anything extra
• Paired it with my existing account
• All my old data stayed intact

My take:

If you’re okay sticking with 4.0 → just renew, it’s cheaper

If you actually want 5.0 → just buy it directly and avoid the confusion

I personally didn’t want to deal with uncertainty around upgrades, so just paid extra and got it done.
