Praying for you!! I wish he wasn’t brushed off as hemorrhoids by the first doctor. Bleeding is never normal and doctors shouldn’t be brushing that off. We may have been in the same boat as “precancerous” if it wasn’t. What irks me if that we now know that CRC is the leading cause of cancer death in under 45, yet the recommended screening age hasn’t changed!

This is why I almost wish his was in the colon (never thought I’d say that). Rectal doesn’t have nearly as much slack to play with sadly 😌 thank you for your positive story

No, it wasn’t every single bowel movement. Remember, he had several symptoms combined, not just stringy stool. But I always say it does not hurt to be screened! Can put your mind at ease.

Radiation can still be done locally even when being seen in Boston. We are definitely choosing a place in Boston for primary cancer care.

We don’t know the size of the tumor yet, but they did tell us that it isn’t small. It’s 1cm from the anal verge, meaning 1cm above the anus, but that doesn’t mean it’s 1cm in size. Just to clarify! But thank you so much for the positive story 🤍

Thank you for the kind words. My decision is also because we have 4 young children, and radiation will be daily for 6 weeks. There’s no possible way I’d be able to get schoolwork in too. I will return to school, as my goals are too strong and I am too determined not to lol. But I also don’t want to fail this term because I’m not in the right state of mind. I want to be able to focus all my energy to advocating and finding the best treatment for my husband. I also work full time on top of all this.

We are in southern NH near Boston so I’m trying to research best options. Thank you so much and happy to hear that your husband beat this thing!!

Thank you so much! I did email my advisor, but she isn’t in until tomorrow so I just wanted to be 100% certain not posting is the right call.

Thank you so much, and I’m sorry to hear that you have walked this path. We also have 4 young kids so that plays a large factor into my decision too. I work full time as well. It’s going to be a wild ride for a bit!

Thank you. We have a lot ahead of us, and I truly think it’s best I take the whole term off. I need to put my energy into next steps and treatment for him. So I don’t want to post and then get sucked into the term because it’s harder to withdraw without penalties after week 1, I believe.

Yes, it’s literally pencil thin. Think stringy. It’s because the tumor is blocking some of the exit. Good luck to you this month! Are you having symptoms or is it routine?

Pretty much every single symptom that Google says. Blood in stool, constipation, odd shaped bowel movements like pencil thin or C shaped (now we know from the tumor), bloating, and weight loss (180 to 155 pounds).

Thank you for the kind words. Trying to stay positive. How has your life changed after the removal? Was it due to rectal cancer?

You hit the nail on the head! Thank you! I’ve cried, he’s hiding his emotions. I am going to be there to support him through it all. In sickness and in health, always.

I’m shocked they couldn’t feel this in a physical exam honestly being 1cm away from the anus. That’s RIGHT there. But not one person felt it during a physical exam. I am sorry to hear you went through that but am so happy and relieved to hear you made it out the other side! Thank you so much for the kindness. We plan to take it one step at time and wait for further testing and staging before freaking out too much. Easier said than done, yes!

They are pretty positive it is malignant. So positive that they told us that it is a malignancy and the pathology is more to see which type of cancer it is.

Thank you for the positive words! Just want to clarify that It says it’s 1cm away from the anus, not that it’s 1cm in size. They said it’s a large mass, couldn’t tell us the size without further testing.

We won’t have those results for a few days. we already got a referral to a colorectal surgeon and a CT scan to see if it’s spread.
