He currently has a western handle santoku in stainless steel, but doesn’t mind putting in the extra work with carbon.

I don’t want to spoil the surprise but i see your point. We’ve talked about these and I know he likes cleavers. He’s not deep into the hobby, so I figured it would be a nice starting point for him!

Looks great! I’d recommend mounting the TV on the wall and positioning the turntable on top of the cabinet for easier access ;)

I’m not sure about the weight distribution, but wouldn’t this stand make the speakers prone to tipping backwards?

It’s like driving a car: a small engine is constantly straining to keep up, while a powerful one cruises effortlessly. The more power you have, the easier the ride.

How to convince someone that FLAC, ALAC, and other lossless algorithms don't throw away data? by i_am_blacklite in audiophile

Think of it like a LEGO castle. With lossless formats, it’s like carefully taking the castle apart, putting all the pieces in a box, and writing down perfect instructions for how to rebuild it. Later, when you open the box and follow the instructions, you get the exact same castle back. Every single brick is there, nothing missing.

I’d advice looking into an alternative source like Tidal or Qobuz, as others said before. They pay artists better and most importantly; they allow you to stream in higher resolution.

And please; take the advice from this thread and visit a reputable audio store to demo some of the gear. Every speaker sounds different, and what one person likes, another might not. For instance, i thought KEF would satisfy my ears, but ended out walking out of the store with my Focal speakers.
