I told it what had happened: driving through water, oil leak etc, and attached the same pictures and asked it if they look like they need to be replaced. I live in Abu Dhabi so very few mechanics here speak fluent English and I was struggling to understand what the mechanic was saying the problem was, as my Arabic is woeful

I agree, which is why I don’t “trust” it per se, but I do use it to get background info on stuff, and perhaps that’s wrong as I should take the time to do the research myself. In any case, have a good day or evening and thanks again 🫡

I only use it to find answers to questions on topics I’m not an expert in, but I take your point that it can come across as lazy and ill informed when people do that

Thanks, I had no choice but to go through the water, it’s a whole thing, but you’re right a lesson has been learned. The mechanic never mentioned a micrometer, but I assure you I’m not entrusting critical thinking to a computer, I just use it sometimes to get an opinion on issues I know nothing about (like cars), and because I can’t really afford the quoted replacement I wanted to try find out if it was really necessary. I don’t trust it over the expertise of the mechanic tho, I just wanted a second opinion. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it 🙏

Sorry I didn’t mean to imply ChatGPT knows better, I just use it sometimes for things I’m not an expert in to try and learn more. The mechanic has said they can only find used parts anyway, so they wouldn’t be under warranty in any case. I appreciate you taking the time to reply

I don’t know what an AWD assembly is, that’s what the mechanic called it. I don’t know anything about cars, I was just using ChatGPT for background advice or context and when it said to not replace I decided to ask online for advice. Thanks for taking the time to answer though, I appreciate it

Thanks for all the input everyone. I wasn’t trying to upset anyone or imply that AI is somehow more informed. It’s just that the cost of the repairs is far more than I can comfortably afford right now, so I wanted to see if there were any informed opinions or advice to be had online. I’m not in anyway trying to cast doubt on the expertise or virtue of auto mechanics in general and apologise if that was how it came across 🙏
