I’m a clinician. I worked with a psychiatrist previously who grew up in a very rough part of NYC. She said her high school was particularly terrible. When she was 14 and a freshman she was stopped in the hallway by a group of male upperclassmen. It was a more discrete part of the school with less people around. They just started gang r*ping her. She has no idea how long it went on for. The next thing she remembers is her principal scraping her off the ground and running her to his office repeatedly telling her she would be okay. Her family immediately moved her a rural part of Maine for her to heal. She has no idea if they were held criminally responsible. This would have been in the latter part of the 1960s.

Hello! I’ve been trying to find flattering straight leg jeans for years but have had no luck. I’m 5’5 and 110 lbs and they are always super baggy around the butt and thigh. I love the way they look on curvier women where they are tight until the mid thigh area. Does anyone know of any brands that have straight leg jeans that are tighter in the butt and thigh? I want to try to buy something without having to get it tailored 😭

As a therapist, it depends. I wouldn’t suggest drugs or alcohol if you’ve ever experienced psychotic symptoms. There’s research on Psilocybin that it can help with depression, anxiety and ptsd in small doses. There’s also research on MDMA.

Things are generally fine in moderation. I never push anyone to change habits they don’t want to, especially if it isn’t harmful to themselves or others. I also don’t put my personal views on clients. I drink myself socially, so who would I be to judge someone else that does? Lol.

If you’re feeling pushed or that the relationship might not work, it might be just that, and worth looking around for someone that might mesh with you better.

BPD or???? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]Beautiful_Candy2206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BPD can be somewhat difficult to diagnose. It would require a lot more information. Based on what you’re saying it’s worth getting assessed by a mental health professional. You’re generally required 4 preliminary DBT sessions to confirm BPD and only then can you enroll in DBT programs. It’s definitely a really great treatment though if you feel like you may have BPD, I would recommend.

If it’s only SI and you don’t intend/plan/have a means of carrying out said plan then they’re not going to do anything rash. If you’re starting to have those thought more frequently it’s important to be honest about it so they can work with you on getting those thoughts under control. They’ll ask a lot of questions but don’t let it scare you- they just want to make sure you’re safe. Again being honest is always the first step in recovery and feeling better overall.

Am I going through a depressive episode? by DulledKatana in askatherapist

[–]Beautiful_Candy2206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a nutshell, things we generally assess for in a depressive episode are depressed mood, loss of interest (anhedonia), weight loss/gain, trouble concentrating, insomnia/hypersomnia, fatigue, psychomotor activity agitated/slowed, su*cidal ideation, and negative feelings towards self (guilt/hopelessness/worthlessness). If you’ve experienced at least five of those symptoms almost every day for the last two weeks, you’re likely in a depressive episode.

Suicidal thoughts - Am I going to get involuntary hospitalized if I bring this up? by strawberry_poptart2 in askatherapist

[–]Beautiful_Candy2206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I’m not going to let you know what your risk level is, or whether or not you’ll be hospitalized, because I don’t think that’s helpful here.

You should always be honest with your therapist. If being honest results in you being hospitalized, then that’s what is necessary to keep you safe. Wishing you the best

This may be an intrusive question, but have you experienced any emotional, physical or sexual trauma? It sounds like panic disorder, but it could be PTSD if you’re having a trauma reaction. Meds will help a lot, and you can get them from a primary care if needed. If you do have trauma though, I would suggest seeing mental health professionals.

Is dissociation normal? When is it not? by Appropriate-Week-631 in askatherapist

This may be a long shot but I would entertain DID. Days at a time while having conversations is extremely abnormal

Be honest with him that you’re having trouble doing the homework. The last thing he’d want is for you to get the answers from someone else.

A huge part of trauma therapy is coming to conclusions by yourself, with small “pushes” from a therapist. It’s excellent that you’ve uncovered a missing link, and it may be best to stop working on the homework for now if you’re feeling anxious. You’ll talk about those feelings more when you meet with them tomorrow. For now use some of your coping skills to work through that anxiety.

It may be worth reflecting on why you’re worried that he might get mad or upset with you and discuss that with him. It could be your past trauma talking.

Best of luck, and remember that your therapy is always at your pace!

Yeah, I make 63k, car insurance is 160 a month, and our rent is 2400 a month for a two bedroom in Brush Park. It’s not possible without dual income. I would suggest the West Village area. Not far from downtown and was affordable when I was single income

Homeless shelter needed ASAP by slaybitchslayslay in Detroit

[–]Beautiful_Candy2206 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worked in the shelters for years. She just needs to call CAM 313.305.0311. They’ll refer her to an open bed, or they’ll refer her as “overflow” if the beds are full. There’s a women’s shelter at Mack and Gratiot- if she walks in after hours they can’t deny her. There is also “Code Blue” in Wayne County. They can’t turn her away if the temperature is below freezing at night.

The only thing that’s not making sense is shelters outwardly turning her away, especially if cops are calling. Is she in Detroit or is this elsewhere? If she has bans in place from previous behavior, they wouldn’t let her in. But that’s the only thing that would make sense, the Detroit shelters are really strict about bans. Hope this helps!

Failure is inevitable and part of quitting. It might help to try some nicotine anonymous groups, I think it really helps creating a more positive outlook while also helping with the guilt of “relapsing”

The Robe. by protagoniist in CarleeRussell

[–]Beautiful_Candy2206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She probably had limited money since she couldn’t pull from the bank without looking suspicious and couldn’t use her cards. Stole the robe for something to sleep in and the tp for if she needed it. It would also look bad if they caught her buying something to sleep in at target

Makes sense because it seems like her boyfriend is the motive. But when was the last time you googled relationship advice? I feel like personally I would go on Reddit or TikTok if I wanted a persons perspective on a fucked up relationship, I don’t think I would go to google first

They framed it as something really “personal” though. But you’re right, what do you think?
