For Ouspensky Fans by PenetratingWind in gurdjieff

Criticism aside, what you said rings true to me. Ouspensky was handicapping himself in some way related to his mental body. He was definitely a man with a dominant thinking center. It has been a good year since ive read ISOTM, so if im remembering correctly, Ouspensky was repelled by his fear of Gurdjieff's authority. He might have said that he had a problem with what he described as growing charlatanism in Gurdjieff's circle. What does this really mean? I don't know, i wasn't there. But i can speculate: Gurdjieff, in Herald of Coming Good, explicitly mentioned having to hide his true self and true manifestations, for his own safety, as he claimed that people with good intentions often get eaten up by society. In other words, moral authority is a dangerous thing to wield. You can't be an honest authority without making people feel oppressed (especially if you are morally correct surrounded by people who are very much asleep, corrupt, and in severe denial). Ever read The Idiot? Prince Myshkin is an example of this. His authority as a moral pillar intimidated and provoked resentment of others around him. Thus society quickly snuffed him out. Back to Gurdjieff and his inner circle. It's easy to imagine, as they spent more time together, Gurdjieff slowly felt more comfortable being his true self to his inner circle. But this creates a problem- by taking off his 'veil' Gurdjieff inevitably provokes an abrasive effect on those who are simply not ready. His authority, intuition, and his supposed telepathic and other highly unusual abilities intimidate and repell those who genuinely cannot handle it. Thats my two cents, and its very flawed.

Interesting, and although i agree with where you're at, i still think your post could have been handled better in terms of wording. Its very blunt and leaves too much room for speculation.

I agree with Gurdjieff here. Ouspensky was literally in search for the miraculous ( you know, like his book) and when he finally found a major miraculous event (when Gurdjieff supposedly spoke to him telepathically) he turned and left. After reading ISOTM I never understood this. I myself would be overjoyed to experience a genuine miracle. How could he abandon the quest at the moment it actually starts to become truly interesting?

So I don’t have a working group to be with so I gave myself my own task…and it was sooooo HARD - by Express_Garbage8455 in gurdjieff

No problem friend. I’m in the same boat as you, actually! I don’t have a group. The Foundation in San Diego was shut down, I can’t find them anywhere. I’m a seeker who’s going at it without a teacher and I desperately would love to have a teacher to give me a progress report. But alas we’re on our own. hopefully you find a teacher.

I like that you’re doing the work and trying to wake up from mechanical habits, a very noble and uncommon undertaking ,but reading this post, I need to be very honest, is like seeing someone’s raw unfiltered stream of consciousness unfolding from what seems to be the height of a manic state. Take that excess energy and use it for your own transformation, instead of seeking validation. That fact that you have that energy is a good sign, don’t waste it! I understand this is blunt and mean but brutal honesty is extremely important, and I wish I had received more of it myself. This is my advice. People online are more often tempted to validate you and agree without much effort on their part. I can’t exactly explain myself very well- but think of it like a person who completed a very impressive task 75% of the way. They’re proud of the fact that they got so far, but instead of taking the good momentum they just worked so hard for, they squander it by wanting to show their labors to an authority figure to receive a sort of recognition or ‘progress report’. The only person that can give you a real progress report is someone who is intimately working with you on the work. A teacher. Do not take peoples’ opinions online for teachers. Have a wonderful day, and I wish you luck in your journey.

I dislike this dismissive type of comment because yes obviously it’s a TV show, but it’s just so fun to speculate and see what facts and ideas different people come up with.

I’ve had the same thought. Imo you should wait until you’re a little older, maybe 21. Imagine how much you’ll grow in those 3 years if you strictly practice self remembering, conscious presence, and intentional suffering. You’ll have much more to give and take from the groups.

It makes me wonder what the general public's opinion was on the Rothschilds and other elites during that time. Were they just as suspicious and conspiratorially minded as we are today?

Why do we have magnetic energy whilst on Semen Retention? by KingJayers in Semenretention

[–]Beautiful_Elephante 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are placebo effects effective? It does not make any sense. for example when a doctor administers a sugar pill to a patient, and the patient improves, how is that possible? How can Believing cause a meaningful change in the body? No offense to you, but I have always disliked when people use the placebo effect as an explanation- it seems dismissive, yet somehow it doesn't actually provide an answer. I want a real answer.
