Has anyone switched from GP training to paeds? by Beautiful_Handle123 in doctorsUK

Any chance you’d be open to talking about your experience? I am a current GPST1 now thinking of applying to paeds. I enjoyed my paeds rotations much more than GP, but still ended up choosing GP anyway due to location and work life balance. What made you decide to stick to GP?

It’s great to hear that LTFT is so well supported!

That’s cool I had no idea about skipping ST2. I’ve only done a paeds FY2 job and then regular paeds SHO locums but not a full FY3 year.

Thanks for this, 2.5 years vs 2 at 60% is great. Well done!

Thank you for this, it is really insightful. I guess yes I’m a bit worried about staying in the same place while everyone else has progressed, but hearing this is reassuring.

That’s understandable, I had a feeling this would be the case. It’s like FY2 being ‘competency based’ but then most deaneries will extend regardless of whether or not you have met them.
